Default Lurker turned member; its about time

Hi everyone. I'm 23 yrs old and looking to loose ~40 lbs
start weight= 174; current= 169; goal= 130. I'm 5'4- 5'5 ish for reference.

Ive been lurking around this site for over a month now... reading random snippets of motivational quotes and such to keep me going. Thats about when i decided it was time to start; Aug 10. You see, heres the back story:

I moved from whats been my 'home' for 13+ yrs to a state where i know no one. I moved for work in Nov of 09 to AZ. Has it grown on me? Definitely not.. and not thinking it will. But while im here, and while ive left all i know to something i know nothing about.... i feel like i've been stuck in a rut. And its time to get out of it. I work a desk job. Very sedetary. Ive never been super healthy and lean, eating good old McD's/ burger king/ taco bell... but then again my highest weight used to be 155 lbs. Moving to AZ... living here... stress of life (breaking up with a 6yr highschool sweetheart relationship; family stressors; work frustrations; etc) my highest weight has reached 180lbs. You see, im definitely an outdoors person. i love grass... and trees... and weather... which you dont have much of at all in AZ. So since i moved here... i never went anywhere, because its so hot... and dusty. My step 1 was to change this. Although im not much of a morning person, ive decided to make it my time. i now wake up at 6am while its still not over 90 degrees... (with a 1/3 swig of a 5hr energy to help plus a glass of water) and go for a run anywhere between 2-3 miles. and by run i mean jog. But then who's to judge; theres a quote i read on someones signature here that read something along the lines of 'if you run fast, your a runner. if you run slow, your a runner. If you jog, your a runner.' aaaaand so im sticking to it .

I also read on here that it typically takes 21 days to create a habit of working out and sticking to it. My days coming up to that 21 number were ones that kept me motivated. especially since ive tried starting an exercise routine and never stuck to it past 2 weeks. ever. Check that goal off the list. 21 days have gone by. Now, im just trying to keep motivated to keep going. and thats where this board has come in. I've been lurking around and reading things here and there. Ive never gotten advice about the best approaches to weight loss. Im not looking for a miracle... although i wouldn't say no if it was offered to me haha. I know that its a lifestyle choice; and im ready for it. My days of mcd's/ bk/ taco bell have definitely passed some time ago. My palate for food and tastes has expanded as ive matured which is great because ill find myself craving fish or salads or veggies or fruit... which is amazing.

I track my calories/ exercise/ water intake daily on my phone using MyFitnessPal. i've put in my calorie intake daily goal at 1200. i usually come in at just the right amount thanks to exercise. buuut with that i also wish id see the scale move faster... but dont we alll... and can see that since its only been a month... i should be patient, so im trying.

So anyways, there it is... my not so brief into. feel free to ask any questions or offer any insights on anything. Otherwise, i look forward to interacting with you on the board

Welcome to the forum and out of lurkdoom. Sounds like you have a great exercise and food plan. I too have made it a priority to get up early to exercise, it is definately not easy but I realized I'm worth the extra effort. Congrats on your weight loss sucess to date!

Thanks for the welcome!
Ive got the plan down hypothetically. its sticking to it that'll take persistence. but i try. Weekends are my toughest times ive noticed because i get bored and have nothing to do... this is a big hurdle i need to overcome and actually be productive with things i know i NEED to get done on the weekend but instead just bum around and snack. Need to figure something out there.

Yay, great job on your loss thus far as well (per your counter) keep up the awesome work!
