I am risen but not very shiny. It's the feeling I get when company has left - as if I can't find my current groove. We had such a good week and I keep replaying it.
In three hours I have to speak at Ted's Celebration of Life. Donna called and asked me last night and I could hardly say no. After that and the "lunch", I'll probably feel more myself. I'd better because we have a huge double birthday going on out in the meadow. It's a celebration for two summer birthdays with a BBQ, lots of friends and probably way too much wine washed down with laughter.
The wine and laughing should straighten me out. I've lots to do next week as it will be our church's 200th anniversary weekend. Claire and I are doing the usual feeding of the masses after the Sunday service. She's pushing fancy sandwiches and I'm leaning towards bread, cheese and ale. I somehow think there were no fancy sandwiches in Delta in 1811 but am not going to push it.
Good morning Ruth and Chicks yet to awaken My cats, of course, love weekends and running through the house like crazy things at 5 am. I don't know how they know it's the weekend but I'm not really fond of the habit. It's a yard and house chore kind of weekend. First up is mowing before the rain. Then I'm getting my dehydrator cleaned and fired up for the season. Time to start getting stuff put away for the winter - especially squash, peppers & eggplant. Can't have too much of those things for winter crockpot stews. I also need to put some time into job search and applications. Found a couple of interesting things to apply for this week.
Ruth - Ah, wine and laughter with friends are the perfect antidotes to so much of life. Hope it does the trick for you
I made the best and easiest frittata last night. I used the smallest setting on the spiral cutter to make fine threads of yellow squash (from the garden!). Just put that into the pie pan and in the oven while I mixed eggs with some soft herb goat cheese and fresh dill. Poured the egg mixture over the squash, stirred it up a bit and baked it. It was sooo good and not a lot of mess or prep. I'll be making that again soon.
Time to get the List done and get moving. I wonder when the neighbors will be awake? I don't want to mow too early but don't want to wait too long.
Happy weekend everyone!
That sure got my attention, Ruth! Take care today as you work through the multitude of events.
Cyndi, hope your chores go smoothly. I read your update yesterday. I'm glad have some answers but will be getting a second opinion.
Me, bike riding, farmers market, pool...in which order I don't know. Mom and sis arrived last night and mom was being pretty mean....snooty and snippy answers to questions. Finally my sis said, "shes mad because you didn't turn her cooler on and her house was hot and she had to take her shoes off".
Oh, well. It's certainly not my problem and it never seems to improve. Glad I'm not eating over it these days....I did for years.
Cyndi - That surgery sounds scary to me too! A second opinion sounds like a great idea.
Rikki - I have it reserved at my library already.
Ruth - Glad you had a fun visit.
Debbie - Riding, farmer's market pool... wish that was MY day! Kudos to you for not eating the emotions anymore.
As for me, the Chinese food dinner last night was just too much! The woman who invited us works at the restaurant and ordered so much food it didn't even fit on the table. Very unhealthy and I felt I had to eat since she was such a gracious host. My one concession - no white rice. Not that it would have much mattered. Anyhoo, it's one meal.
BUT, tonight we go out with friends so I'll do my best to eat healthier. Then we are going with them to the professional soccer game. Not my thing but the guys like it and our friends had free tickets.
Got my beans in the crockpot in time to have them done before we leave tonight. Exercise is next.
Good Morning chickies! Looks like many of you are sleeping in on this glorious Saturday! I definitely wish I was! Unfortunately Saturday is usually our busiest day at work... I got up early enough to go for a jog but decided against it because the humidity is at 90%... even if it is only 76 right now... Oy. I will walk at lunch though!
Ruth- Sounds like you have a packed weekend, enjoy it! I hope you get back in the groove soon
Cyndi- that sounds delicious! Enjoy your weekend!
Debbie- you snuck in as I was posting ;0) Its an awesome feeling to know those "triggers" and not succomb to them anymore, isn't it! Good for you! I hope your mom gets in a better mood
Karen-you snuck in too! Glad you are going to read it... I recommended it to so many people yet I feel few have taken me to heart! I can't wait to hear what you think about it!
For me today is work work work... I plan to walk at lunch then its off to a dinner/bday party. I think we will miss the dinner part, but will go for a drink. I have an early flight to catch tomorrow to go visit the grandparents in Wisconsin- hoping it will be a break from this humidity! I will keep up my running plan while I am there! And eating won't be a problem because I will be the one cooking... I will resist eating cheese though
Ugh, I feel like I have a hangover this morning after only a couple hours of sleep. We arrived home in the very wee hours of the morning and were very glad to finally pull into my driveway. The last two hours of the trip were especially grueling, and we probably should have gotten a motel for the night, but we were anxious to get home.
It was a great trip, though, and we did so much. Many, many happy memories, but I think the best part of all was just relaxing and chatting on
Ruth's front porch.
I have a mountain of laundry that I'm working on right now, and there's no food in the house, so a grocery run is in the near future, too.
Ruth - hope your day went well. You are ALWAYS so busy! Cyn - I wish I had a garden! I am looking for ideas for my porch garden (planter boxes or something) Debbie - your day sounds fabulous!!! Hope you had fun. Karen - it was actually disappointing. I don't think our leadership styles mesh But thanks for asking. How were the beans??? Rikki - safe travels! Cottage posting as cottage!!! I've gotten used to seeing you post as Ruth
As for me, I feel like I've fallen off track the last 24 hours even though I haven't. Too much food and of things like cheese and rice. So odd for me. Must be PMS? I mean, I went to the store today for more spinach after seeing Harry Potter and getting some boxes for the move and it's not a store I am accustomed to. So I had to walk down the chips isle. And I wanted none of it. I guess it's a phase I am going through this month - the MORE FOOD part of it. Maybe I am a bit sad - with us having started the packing process, it's sad that we will be leaving the place we've called home for 3 years.
Tomorrow is a lot of packing. I need to fit some exercise in there as well. Night!
Oh my gosh! I just woke up out of a dead sleep because I had SUCH a craving for cheese. I satiated it, AGAIN, but I wonder what the heck is up with me. Oye. Water and bed. So odd...
Morning all, don't mind me as I slink in and hide in the corner.....
OMG I've been a naughty girl recently. I don't know what's up with me, but right now I seem unable to do P1 for more than a few days! First time round I stuck to it like glue and enjoyed it. These days I don't just fall off the wagon but jump off into a pool made of cheetos and swim about it in stuffing my face. Sigh.
But I have been to get prices for the gym I used to go to (got into a conversation with the instructor about moving abroad and turns out he's looking into emmigrating to the USA as well - small world!) and as of today there'll be nothing illegal in the house, if the family want it they have to go out and buy it for consumption of the premises! I'm disappointed in myself - I think I'll have to go hardcore and do the mealplan from the original book - familiar comforting ground lol.
Cyndi - that sounds so homely & lovely - my veg patch has been devoured by caterpillars! At least they waited until I harvested the meagre supplies of broccoli! But I have got some pickled eggs on the go!
Ruth - cheese and ale sounds good! I'd love to get more involved in my community, but in the UK we don't seem to have the same sort of attitude towards that as you guys across the pond do.
I hope everyone has an awesome day, I'm off to drag out my book and plan next weeks menu!
Fun, fun evening at Meadowpalooza last night and held back on the food although there were some fabulous foods there. Everyone brought along their best. There were about 50 of us there and most of them camped out in the meadow last night. Aside from all the food and wine, we set off fireworks and also had sparklers. I felt like a little kid writing my name in the air.
Today will consist of Church and odds and ends around the house. It's going to be hot again so the garden will just have to wait. I may go out and harvest the yellow beans and more tomatoes.
Good morning It's a slightly damp and gray day today. Looks like we got plenty of rain overnight. My baby basil will be so pleased. (I planted a new batch to replace the batch we are eating). Today's plan includes some chores including getting the 10 lbs of green peppers into the dehydrator. DW is feeling pretty darned good though so we may head out and do some birding.
Jenn - I've been going through the same thing with protein. Last night I grilled a tuna steak for me. I won't tell you how big it was but I definitely planned leftovers I just crave protein all the time. I remember when you guys moved into that place. You were on here back then too Happy packing! Can't wait to see pics of the new place. I'm sure we can all give you lots of suggestions for porch boxes, hanging planters, etc
Ruth - Sounds like a fun evening was had by all.
Cottage - hope you are catching up on sleep this morning
Karen - thanks for the reminder - I need to get some beans in the crock before we go!
Plenty of rain overnight here, too, and it's a very misty morning. Jake and I are enjoying a quiet cup of coffee out here on the sunporch before the rest of the troops start stirring. My son-in-law came out after his last show last night, but I went to bed before he arrived and have no idea what time they made it to bed. I don't know what the plans are for today, but I know I'll be ready for a quiet, peaceful week. I need to find a good hiding place for my car!
I guess lots of us are waking up to a hazy, rainy morning. My husband just came in with our dogs and said there was a big coyote on our property. Considering I have 2 Shih Tzus, I'm glad he was out there with them. I've seen my dogs run after a fox on more than one occasion, but the coyote would probably have stood his ground and gone after them. They are sweet dogs, but not too smart.
I've spent the weekend trying to get through last minute paperwork and cleaning up the house. My youngest daughter is entering her last year of college, and as the captain of her soccer team, has decided to host a pre-season party at our house on Wednesday. I want to make sure no one injures themselves before the season starts by tripping over shoes and dog toys!
Have a wonderful day!!
Thanks Cyn!!! Yes, it was only three years ago that we moved in here, right after (literally the day after) my mom's funeral.
Just when I found a breakfast I love (Green Monster), BAM! Blender goes out! Ughhh. I remember when I was looking for a food processor there was a products thread started. Must go look for recs considering my tiny little Target brand slushie maker doesn't quite work (a wee too small).
Hi all! Made a classic error on Thurs and didn't have any beans. Wasn't very hungry so I didn't eat much. Woke up Friday nauseous, my entire body trembling, weak, dizzy, and dripping sweat. Thought I had a bug and was going to try to tough it out and work, but I almost passed out just washing my hair in a cold shower. Had to sit awhile, then called in thinking I had the flu. Didn't occur to me that it was my blood sugar until I forced myself to eat some lentil stew around 1:30. Hello miracle cure! So yeah, lesson learned.
I'm down 4.8 lbs since Ph1 started Wed. Not too shabby. Doing Ph1 til this Fri only because Sat is grocery day and there are no healthy grains or fruits in the house.
Went to church this morning, had lunch (twist on Lasagna In A Bowl, sauteed green peppers on bottom, LF cottage cheese, Chris' homemade sauce, crumbled soy Italian sausage, slice provolone, LF Parmesan.) Now watching Food Network with a sleepy Voodoo and thinking about a nap!
