Default How much should I worry about heart palpitations?

I've been doing a lot of weight training for the first time ever, and at the same time, having a lot of heart palpitations for the first time in a while. Basically, it almost always happens when I am almost at the point where I can't do one more rep. Is this a sign to ease off from such heavy weights, or is it just a thing that happens that I can safely ignore? Anyone know?

Thanks!

Are you sure they're palpitations? I found this article on Livestrong and a few other websites that seem to indicate that heart palpitations are rare DURING exercise.

Sorry I can't be of more help. When I'm on the elliptical machine, I experience some loud/heavy heart pounding sensations in my chest. It's not pleasant, especially since I wonder whether it's normal or something I should see a doctor about. (Up to this point I've chalked it up to being newish to exercise - again - and my heart trying to catch up.)

I'm interested to read what others have to say.

I'm pretty sure they're palpitations. It's a thing I've had trouble with before, although previously it was in connection with panic attacks. Hopefully that is the same thing re-emerging and is not indicative of heart trouble, but I have a check up soon and I can presumably ask then.

I don't know what to tell you except that I have a history of heart disease in my family. If that was me, I'd see a doctor. Better to be safe than sorry.
