Default Anyone switch from South Beach to WW successfully?

I lost 40lbs with WW 4 years ago. A few years and 1 baby later I had pretty much gained most of it back I was having a hard time getting myself motivated to kickstart my weightloss after my son was born. I made a half-hearted attempt to start WW again in Jan, but guess I wasn't ready to embrace the new P+ program. I think I have purchased just about every diet book out there LOL! Anyway, I started the South Beach Diet 3.5 weeks ago. So far I have lost about 8 pounds. I am just wondering how long I will be able to limit my bread and fruit intake so much. I really want to find a sustainable way of eating. I am considering starting with WW again. It worked so well for me in the past, so I would think it should work again. I guess I am just afraid of the weight I lost creeping back on. I am currently only eating 1 grain and 1 fruit a day. I would not go crazy and eat a bunch of carbs all day, but if I want a wrap with my sandwich AND some brown rice or a sweet potato with my chicken I don't want to feel guilty about it LOL
So I guess this is my long winded way of asking if anyone has made the switch and been successful with it? Any tips?

Hey Rachele,
Just started WW on Monday and this is my second day of dieting. I was not doing south Beach but I was somersizing. Susan Somers diet. It worked for a while, very similar to South beach, but it stopped working after a bit.
What I can tell you, and I hestitated too believe me, is that the new WW is sooooo much better. Fruits and veggies are now free, zero, zip points, and that makes life easier for me.
You have a lot more points to play with- and I dont feel deprived of Carbs!!
I am finding it much easier to stick to it this time around.
Ive done the WW thing before, trust me, several times before- and gained it all back.
The only words of wisdom I can provide from personal experience, is give it a go again if you think WW will work for you. I did the same thing you did. But the 2nd time around, I know I can Live with this diet. Good Luck on your decision.

I am a firm believer in changing your lifestyle, not just going on a diet. Whole grains are meant to be in your diet for life! Points plus gives you a lot of freedom but you can still follow it while being careful to only eat whole grains and good carbs. Keep the USDA food plate in mind while following points plus and you'll definitely be able to create a sustainable way of eating and lose weight on weight watchers! Go for it!

I've done SBD a couple of times, but every time, I missed my carbs too much and I'd bounce right back up. I'd lose about 10-12 lbs in phase 1 and then I could only keep going on phase 2 for a few weeks before I'd go on carb benders. I find WW to be MUCH more sustainable. I've lost 8 lbs on it so far in six weeks, and I've never felt deprived, so I'm more confident that I won't crash and burn. (Unlike SBD!) I'd say give it a shot! You will probably not lose the weight as fast on WW compared to SBD, which has been the most frustrating part for me (then again, the rapid weight loss on sbd isn't exactly healthy...), but you'll definitely feel like you could eat on the WW program for the rest of your life.

That's my two cents!

Yes! I lost 60 pounds on South Beach a few years ago but during pregnancy gained it back. Tried South Beach repeatedly to try to lose since it had worked before. Could never stick with it long enough to lose more than 10-15 pounds because of the all or nothing mentality. I needed portion control, accountability, and more structure. Started WW in March have lost 41 pounds! (Just a little less than 2 pounds a week) As other posters have said, it is sustainable. I can eat like this the rest of my life. The nice thing is, WW is so flexible you can use what you learned from SB. Focus on veggies and lean protein and fruits and whole grains like you learned to on South Beach. You can do it!

i started with sb 3 weeks ago and lost 7.5 lbs. i switched to wwpp because i was missing fruits too much. now i count my points while choosing whole grains and trying to eat more vebetables. During the first 3 days i gained .5 lbs per day then i lost those 1.5 lbs during the next week. So far i am one week pp and no loss other than the 1.5gain from the switch over. I'll be sure to update as things progress
