Default How do you manage your meals on a night shift?

That's the hardest part of staying on plan for me...the darn 12 hour night shift I do in the ER (as an admitting clerk).Any tips?

Take your lunch from home! I work nights.

I do not eat heavy like most of the workers for work nights. If I did that, I would literally feel terrible, I hate the full feeling in my stomach.

I eat lightly during the night with fruits, yogurt or cereal/milk, or cheese and crackers. I snack when I am hungry not according to the clock. If I am starving, I eat an apple.

Say "No!" to food brought in, for that fact...do not go back to the break room until that food is gone!

Whatever you are doing, it must be working, because you are losing the weight!

I know how frustrating it can be since I too work 12 hour night shifts, but on a floor as a nurse. Even though I try to eat something every 2 hours now, there are some nights where I am so busy I seriously "forget" to eat and before I know it half of the night has gone by and I haven't even had a drink of water or something to eat. On the nights where I do get to eat something, I usually opt for having some protein bars, yogurt, or some fiber one bars in my purse. I've found some of the fiber one bars to be SO delicious (especially their chocolate brownies). They're small enough that I can eat them fairly quickly without having to sacrifice getting behind on my work, and filling enough that I can not focus on hunger for at least an hour or two.

Hope this helps!

I'm right there with ya....I have a hard time on nights to, but I started paking a lunch and snacks for the night. I munch throughout the night and stay full. Most of the time I stay dirastically under my calorie allowance. I take veggies and fruits and much while I chart. I can stay full and only eat 800 calories, which isn't good but I've done it before, I didn't think it possible to do either lol. I also drink E.A.S protien drinks, around 120 calories and 17g of protien, they keep me really full and can take care of a sweet tooth! Good luck! We nocturnals have to stick together!
