Lightbulb August Runners/Walkers/Joggers

Looking to get some miles in starting August 1? Me too!

I'm looking for people who are starting something in August (or continuing something and just looking for new motivation) to get them moving. This can be running, walking, or jogging.

Years ago, I did the C25K program and have tried to repeat starting it, but I either restart feeling like it's not enough or try to skip a couple of weeks ahead. I can start on week 3, but find that the next week, I'm not ready for week 4 lol. So, I'm doing things a little different - using the runnersworld.com beginner plan with modification. I'm intentionally starting out very slow (i.e. this week is just about getting out of bed that early 3 days a week and walking 30 minutes).

So, if you're interested in starting someting, switching things up, or just sharing wisdom, post here so we can all take one step forward on fitness (pun intended).

I will join you! I'm on week 3 of c25k this week, but I repeated week 1 and week 2 so I could build up. You could always start with week 3 and repeat it a couple times, or maybe do it 5 days instead of 3 so you feel good about it.

Thumbs up Awesome

Fantastic! I know I posted this a little early as there are still a few days left in July...for me it's easier/more effective to pre-prepare. I created my workout plan (for running) for the next year. There's a part of me that says I should work on the here and now more, but I know that if I look at that and recognize that with this plan I can run a 10K at the end of 1 year and then know that I can hit a 1/2 marathon after that (not planned yet), then I am more likely to push forward!

This week, my plan is to walk (and run up to 2x a 1-minute run) for 30 minutes so I get used to the waking up. I'm also going to bike on Saturdays, so I'm taking the bike out this weekend to start. I rode last night for a bit (to work and back) and remembered how much I love riding my bike!

I'm in for this one! I really want to do the local half marathon in December, so right now I'm doing a 5K training program before I start the heavier stuff in September. My goal is to run 3-4 days a week in August.

I'm in! I'm also on week 3 of c25k, PacSunMama - how's week three treating you? The last 3-minute interval on day one just about killed me, but last night (w3d2) was a bit better. My goal for August is to not miss a single day of C25K (repeating weeks is okay if I have to, but hopefully not).

Count me in! I just started C25K this week, and since I only got two runs in I plan to start week one over again tomorrow.
So my goal for August is to successfully train for C25K according to the program. I am also squeezing in as much elliptical time as I can and adding some weights/push ups, etc 3x a week.

Hello! I am new here, this is my first day and first post. I did the C25K. Started May 1, finished on July 16. I loved it! It took me longer than 9 weeks, I had trouble with my legs in the beginning and if I did not finish a day, I repeated it until I got it.

I started the Bridge to 10K program on July 18th. I am up to Week 2 Day 2.

So, I would love to be a part of this group! I do my running at 5am to beat the heat. I can't breath when the humidity is so high and the temps so hot. And the traffic is so much lighter then.

I have never been a runner...but I was diagnosed with a fatty liver in December and decided that I needed to do something, I only have one liver, if I lose it due to my stupidity, then that is just crazy.

I started Jazzercise and added the running program, just to see if I could do it. And it turns out, I can run. I don't run fast, but I run, and I sweat and I am losing lb's and inches. And, I like it!

Welcome Fancy! And what an inspiration you are. My biggest hurdle so far is getting up early enough to run.

My August goal is to RUN at least 50 miles in August. I came up with this number by telling myself I will run at the least, 4 days each week. On these runs, I will run at least 5k (3.1 miles). I multiplied that by 4 weeks and got just under 50 miles.

I don't so much measure miles. Mainly because I run in a neighborhood and have to go in the car to measure where I ran. Since I am working on the Bridge to 10K, I just try and make it out to run at least 3 times a week, according to the program. I would love to start running at least 5 times a week, just some short runs in between the program runs. Just need a little kick in the tushy to get me out of bed more often lol.

I started my running program (not the C25K) this morning. This week is 20 minutes of a running pattern with 5 minutes before and after of walking. I ran for 1 minute and walked at a brisk pace for 5 minutes. I will do this week and begin reducing the number of minutes walking and then begin increasing the number of minutes running over the next few weeks. My goal is to solidly be able to do a 5K 3x a week. After 6 months, this will turn into a goal to move up to a 10K!

Good luck on your running program. I loved the C25K, because it kept me engaged, and it prompted when to run and when to walk. Since I go out before daylight, and I don't wear my glasses when I run, I can't see the dial on my watch. Now the Bridge to 10K is doing that for me also.

I did not have a good run this morning. I haven't ran since last Wed, went out of town for the weekend and really paid for it this morning. So, my Week 2 Day 2 will be repeated until I master it.

I'll join in! I restarted C25K today. Did the week 1 day 1. I got most of the way through, but ended up walking most of hte last 8 minutes. Got way too hot. (My own fault for going mid morning.

But tomorrow I'll walk!

I walked a little over a mile this evening so that I could hit my step target for the day. I ran for a couple minutes, but didn't have my normal running shoes with me so I didn't keep it up for too long.

8/1 - 1.15 miles
