Default I need to vent

Yesterday I was having a conversation with a guy in my taekwondo class about being tired all of the time. His reply: "It's because you don't eat right." (This guy has lost 30 pounds in the last month or so by drinking some crazy weight-loss shake, so he seems to think he's the authoritative source on weight loss and being "healthy")

Um, excuse me? How on earth would you know what I do/don't eat?! It bugs me to no end that fat equals lazy fast-food addict and skinny equals health nut who works out all of the time! Sure, these can both be true, but the opposite can be equally true.

Case in point: a good friend of mine thinks exercise is a four-letter word and refuses to do anything that requires that she breaks a sweat, and survives on frozen pizza and mac and cheese. She is about my height, but weighs 115 lbs. Nine months pregnant she weighed 125. She's just always been very thin. She also has cholesterol and blood pressure issues.

People at work/school always seem so surprised when they see me take out my lunch or snack. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "Wow, do you always eat this healthy?" Or when I mention going to the gym. "Do you work out often?" "Um, yeah, about 5-6 days a week."

It's so incredibly frustrating to lead the life of a healthy person, but to be looked at as someone who must spend all of her time sitting on her couch eating potato chips!

I just needed to get that off of my chest. Thanks for indulging my rant.

I know exactly how you feel! These days, people just judge you on how you look on the outside. Skinny DOES NOT equal healthy!!

It's frustrating when I'm there eating my salad w/ no dressing etc, when I'm next to my healthy, toned friend who's indulging on her daily lunch of junk food and calories galore! Not that I'd rather be harming my body with all that.. but life seems so much easier for people like that.

Supposedly it's to do with metabolism.. those who are well.. blessed.. with a fast metabolism find it easier to process calories than those like me who are cursed with a slow metabolism!

Right now, I'm trying to raise my metabolism.. by drinking A LOT of water and green tea.. no idea whether it'll work, but hey!

Just on a side note: It really grinds my gears when people around me make harsh comments when they see an overweight person exercising or eating healthy.. it's like.. they're putting in a lot of effort to making a change, so who are you to judge them? Out of all things, you should be inspired!

Haha, just thought I'd have a little rant myself. Anyway, good luck with the rest of your weight loss and health gain!

I 100% agree. I work out ALL the time. I bike ALL the time. I'm more aware of what I eat than most people. I know what vitamins I'm getting and what vitamins I need to get more of.

I still have that "flub" so people get SO surprised when I say that I bike or work out all the time.

It really sucks when that skinny friend that eats EXTRA mayo on everything, has ice cream daily and their idea of "working out" is walking across the street and somehow they weigh barely anything and look GREAT! It sucks when that friend decides to tell you that "the reason you're fat, is that you don't work out enough!" >.> I mean really?
I also hate when they give you the "good for you" speech and then talk about how they need to lose 5 pounds from their "oh so perfect body" when their idea of losing any weight is just going for a small walk in the evening and skipping dessert one day that week.

There was a time when I was stuck in the making excuses and 'whoa is me' stage of weight loss where I would lament that even though my best friend ate equally as bad, or worse, than I did he still stayed as skinny as could be but I was gaining, gaining, gaining. Even first semester this past year I had two (then three) skinny roomies who never worked out and ate tons of junk all the time. I hated to see one of them who baked and ate a whole loaf of banana bread, or brownies, or a cake, or more weekly and then went on to complain about how FAT she was. SHE WAS A SIZE BLEEPING 4!

And god FORBID I talk about how I'm fat and that they don't make nice plus size clothes, she would go 'Ohhh STOP, you're talking nonsense blah blah blaaaah'. I wanted to clock her for sure! Thank god I never have to see her again!

God that guy is a tool. Tell him to have fun living the rest of his life on shakes...I'd be miserable.

This reminds me of feeling similarly when my former roommate came back from her cottage SUPER tanned. I'm verrrrrrry fair... I always will be, and I have come to terms with it. She had spent 8 hours in the sun the day before to get as brown as possible, and made comments about how I need to get outside. It drove me nuts. I just told myself that one day she would be a leathery old lady and that my decades of sunscreen application would pay off and I'd have the skin of a 21 year-old on my 80th birthday. It's probably not true, but it makes me feel better I do the same with these thin junk food addicts...either one day they will wake up and their lifetime of junk food will show, or they will realize how out of shape and unhealthy they are.

It sounds a bit malicious typing it out...but I think it's innocent enough if it's just meant for motivation! Maybe you can spar with him next week and show him how fit you really are, haha.

WOW what a loser that guy is!! I know exactly how u feel unfortunately. I had a similar experience with an aerobics teachers who told me I wasn't ready for certain exercises, singled me out in front of an entire class & showed them how to do the move and not me( i was the only girl in that class above 200lbs so I gues she assumed I was to big), then said, when she was talking about tank tops, she looked at me & said YOUR NOT READY FOR THIS YET & proceeded to talk to the class about how arms look in tank tops! Like I dont wear tank tops bc I'm bigger? SO then I asked her WHY DO U ASSUME THAT I CANT DO THESE WORKOUTS BC I'M BIGGER? & she said NO NOT AT ALL PEOPLE JUST THINK YOU DON'T NEED TO WORK ON YOUR ABS WHEN YOUR BIGGER, DON'T WORRY THERE'S A FLAT TUMMY IN THERE SOMEWHERE! & then she just walked away, I just walked outta her class.

people like this make me so mad thats why I feel like you MUST standup for yourself! It may prevent them from doing something stupid like that to someone else.

You should have asked him for specifics and pointers, and made him try to support his assertion after you'd enlightened him about your eating habits. Plus, he may have given you some good tips, if he gets nutrition from anything other than some processed shake.

If you are tired all the time try eating 2 tablespoons of raw pumpkin seeds every day. They cured my fatigue.
They are loaded with vitamins and minerals.
I buy mine at a health food store. The shells have been removed.
You can search for "pumpkin seeds remedy" in the internet, and you will find more info on them.
