Default Treadmill Suggestion

Okay, to all my treadmill runners/joggers/heck, walkers too... I am not a newbie at running. I was in the military and have done wayyy more than my fair share. Don't get me wrong, I am not quite in the shape I was then hah. But I do have a piece of advice I would like to share with those of you who are trying to improve on their running (using a treadmill), primarily for those aiming to increase their distance. Something I found that helps me a TON!! I always take a hoodie or something of that sort with me... I get myself set up on manual. Press START. And throw the hoodie over the numbers. You would be shocked to find out how much further you can push yourself when you aren't so focused on watching the numbers on the screen!! It may not work for everyone but it's worth a try.

I do that when I run on the treadmill. I have only had to run indoors once in the last two months though. The miles come easier and the time goes faster outside. Transitioning back to the treadmill when winter hits is gonna be tough!

I started running this past spring, and completed most of the c25k on the treadmill. Covering up the numbers made it SO much more tolerable!

Now that I run outside, though, I'm with aimeebell - running inside is gonna stink. There's something about being outside that makes it easier to go longer and harder.

You know, the last time I ran outside it was when I was in the Army. So it's been about six months. But with that being said, I always did prefer it. I guess because of the scenery and fresh air... I must be avoiding it because 1. I don't have an arm band for my phone/mp3 player and music is pretty essential to me when running (unless I am not allowed - ie military runs). 2. I don't like being gawked or honked at. Haha. BUT - I am gonna suck it up & run outside next time I run. Thanks for the inspiration ladies

I don't think I have the willpower, but I'll give it a try! lol I can admit I often get so focused on the data. I've made that a big part of my routine - jogging/running and sticking in short sprints here and there. I wonder if I can as well w/o knowing how fast I'm going exactly.

@skinny_fast: trust me, it works wonders! you will find you can push yourself harder than you think when you aren't so transfixed on the numbers. i am the same way so i am speaking from experience

btw if you don't mind me asking, what part of MD are you from? i am originally from Harford County, about 20 miles North of Baltimore.

I totally agree that the display is SO distracting during a tread run. Great advice!
