They vary, and people do too. I don't know that any one can tell if it's really accurate or not. I use fitday, and it seems to work pretty well for me, in that over the last 12 weeks, my weightloss is fairly close to what the calculator would predict based on what I tell it my food and exercise has been. But it might not work for you. I was looking at another calculator, and it told me my base calories were lower, but then gave me higher values for any exercise I did.
