Default Braces... How to ask my boyfriend??

So my teeth are one of things that REALLY bother me, 2nd to my weight. They're not terrible, I am greatful. But they're not perfect. So I want braces. I'm not so sure how I'm going to feel about being fat, have glasses, and braces (isn't that like a triple EW), so I may wait till I've lost some more weight.

Here's my issue though. Obviously since it affects my appearance I want my boyfriends opinion.. I know he loves me just the way I am. But he obviously knows my teeth aren't perfect.

How do I bring it up? I HATE having to mention things pointing out my imperfections. It's hard as it is when i talk to him about my weight. He is a good guy, and is very supportive. but it's hard =[

I was fat had glasses and braces when I was younger *sniff*

Here's how you bring it up. "So I've been looking into getting braces to help straighten my teeth."

Teeth straightening isn't just about appearances, it can help keep them healthier, too. Easier to brush, floss and maintain. *nod*

Surely you're not letting someone other than you decide whether you get braces on your own teeth.

Please tell us you're not.

Seriously, you being happy and confident with your appearance will be the greatest reward for your boyfriend! There's no reason he wouldn't want you to be happy, unless he is just a crappy person.

I know he wants me to be happy. & I know the first thing out of his mouth will be "whatever will make you happy dear". but in the back of my insecure mind is how i'm going to look. also it would be "our" money paying for it. I'll have for about 2 years. So I think about ..will I want braces on my wedding day? things like that.

I have a friend who was in her 30s with braces, and an aunt in her 50s with them currently. They were/are both self-conscious about their braces.

I really don't think your boyfriend has any say in you getting dental work done. He'd have about as much say as what type of birth control - a pill v. IUD v. Implanon. When it comes down to it, it is your body and your decision. I'm married and my husband and I bounce ideas off each other, but really it boils down to what makes us individually happy.

I say go for it. It's better to do it now and get it over with than spend months or even years agonizing over the thought and being unhappy when you look in the mirror.

I got braces when I was in college (taken out when I was 24)..I wasn't obese but I was slightly overweight. I really miss my braces now that they are gone and so does my boyfriend! Haha, they are totally cute and adorable and my teeth have never looked better! They do hurt like a b tho!

I had braces in my 30's and heavier *shrug* it was no worse with them then without them and actually having nice teeth to look forward to was nice.

If you don't want braces a lot of issues with teeth can be fixed with Invisilign. I know a couple of people who had them and it takes a bit longer than with traditional braces but is often better for adults.
