Default My one unbeatable craving! HELP!

So here's the deal. Things have been going REALLY well for the most part. I have been eating more healthfully than I have in my entire life. I've lost about ten pounds combining good eating with working out since beginning this journey like 3 weeks ago, and I am pretty ecstatic with the physical change and the slim down I'm noticing already. I finally recognize myself again which is such a blessing. I'm working out and loving it. I have NEVER been able to say that! Thank god for Bar Method!

There's just one thing... It get's me EVERY time...
BUTTERED MOVIE THEATRE POPCORN!!!!!!

I love going to the movies, and I go probably 2-3 times a week. I quit drinking about 1.5 years ago, so I don't often go to bars at night. I've always been a huge movie buff, and going to the movies has always entailed a small(and later, more recently a medium) buttered popcorn and a coke. How is it that I can go all day and stick to my healthy eating, and then I walk into a movie theatre and all of a sudden I seem to have lost all control! The next thing I know I am sitting in my seat, hand stuck in a big bag of greasy, delicious popcorn.

Do any of you have any similar cravings associated with places? I have gotten the suggestion that I should bring my own healthy snack, and maybe I should, but it's just so hard to resist. I went to a Woody Allen movie tonight and I definitely indulged I feel so repulsive. I had a spotless day until then. I'm honestly considering throwing it all up, which I know is horrible and unhealthy and... ya. My E.D. tendencies are coming out again, I fear...

So sorry for the long post... Does anyone have any suggestions or can any of you relate?

OMG, buttered popcorn is a serious weakness for me too. I think it's the smell. Maybe we should only go to the cinema when we have a cold lol.

Seriously though, the way I try and deal with it is by taking a bag (or two or even three as long as I've taken account of the calories they'll cost me) of calorie-controlled salted popcorn in with me.

It's nowhere near as nice but it stops me from feeling totally deprived. I won't lie though - it only works about half the time!

You aren't the only one. When I go to the movies I have to have a large tub simply because I don't go but maybe once every 1 and 1/2 months and its not like I eat popcorn at home. Buttered popcorn isn't the same as movie theatre popcorn. Since you go to the movies 2-3 times a week, I would go to the gym (if you have a gym membership) to offset the popcorn. That way you don't feel guilty about having your pleasure. My one weakness is potatoes and lord knows that I have to go to the gym for at least two hours to offset the craving that I have had with them. Don't feel bad. We all have weaknesses.

I too am a big movie buff. All I can offer is smuggling in your own snacks. Bring bottled water and lessen the chance of having to hit the loo! (also bottled water is insanely expensive in movie theaters).

Here we get the butter dispensers separate, which is annoying because you end up soaking the top layer of the popcorn and getting dry saltiness at the middle of the bag. I still like it sometimes but lost my taste for it after realizing that it isn't butter at all. It's a bunch of grease with chemicals added to it to make it taste that way. You'd be better off air-popping some at home and putting real butter on it (would take much less ACTUAL butter for butter flavor).
Big purses are the norm right now =) Fill it up! And at least you'd know what you were eating!

PS I'm sure there are some places that have actual butter. I'm talking about the 99% of other movie theaters.

I agree with you Ginny. I know that the bottled water is like $6-$8 dollars at the theatre. You kidding me??? I can buy 12 waters at wal-mart for that price. Arse-holes. ^^ My friends and I went to the theatre once and we brought in whoppers, well they did. I shared popcorn with her son.

Fox news did a story on movie theaters cleanliness and found that the butter machines had traces of “fecal organisms and Enterococcus” bacteria. So next time you're at the theater remember what you're really snacking on! blech!

This is tricky I think. I understand your craving. Mine is chocolate so I have a chocolate kiss every night. A few days ago we went to the movies and I wanted the popcorn. I'm sure it was the smell. In reality that greasy popcorn makes me sick to my stomach after I eat it.
Some how you have to handle this. Maybe limit yourself to a small popcorn without the butter once a week, or whatever. Just make a plan so you don't feel bad about yourself. You can do this!

I have a weakness for popcorn in general I eat the 94% fat free kind. Have you tried just eating popcorn at home so you don't want it at the movie theater?

they have 100 calorie personal size bags of popcorn, which is yummy, drizzle some olive oil on it, with a little bit of sea salt. and shake

It is hard when you go to the movies, that's the main place me and my bff go to hang out, cuz we don't drink..lol

I try eating dinner b4 i go, so I'm full (although theres always room for popcorn) and I ALWAYS share with someone, because not only does that mean you can't eat it all, I find myself not reaching for it as much if I know someone else is eating it too (hate being the fat chick who eats all the damn popcorn lol)

Hey guys! Thanks so much for your responses!!! AWESOME suggestions. I think hearing about the "fecal organisms" did it for me... I am SO not craving a popcorn right now! Sick!

I am going to hit Safeway before my next flick and pack my purse with sugarfree candy and maybe some other goodies. As long as I have something I shouldn't feel so deprived!

Sweets are definitely my biggest weakness, and especially when it comes time for dessert after dinner. Dessert has been a part of my entire life, it's routine. I've switched to sugar free candy, sugar free puddings and mouse's with whipped cream, and I also make things at home when I can like coconut macaroons using splenda and unsweetened coconut... It gets easier the more options I learn I actually have, and the less I feel like I'm missing out on things!

chocolate! It's the most cliche weakness but i am addicted to it.
I waste so much money on kit kats or crunch bars each week. It's pretty sad!

I'm addicted to anything carb related. I know how you feel about the popcorn, though. I love the smell and the greasiness of it (as horrible as that sounds). Lucky for me, I just can't stand the idea of spending $4-5 on popcorn.

I would have to agree with some of the above suggestions like bringing your own snacks or eating before you go. If it's not around a time I eat, I will drink a couple tall glasses of water or diet soda before I go to so that things won't be quite so tempting, since I'll be full.

My new favourite thing is microwave low fat popcorn and I melt some I can't Believe It's Not Butter with a little bit of splenda and some cinnamon, OH EM GEE -- is it ever good! You could try making it and taking some to the movies -- it's different than the movie popcorn, but you won't feel deprived or like you are eating crappy tasteless popcorn.
