I just bought a kick butt Oster Blender to make some smoothies. BUT I think I need to add some sort of protein to it in order to balance out the carbs (It does wacky things to my system if I don't). Does anyone know if a good protein or protein powder for smoothies? Something not too strong tasting or caloric?
I use pasteurized egg white powder for smoothies. The pasteurization makes it safe (no salmonella). A 1/4 cup has 90 calories, 0g car, 0g fat, 18g protein. It's low in calories with no additives. I add spices, vanilla and Splenda. Sometimes I’ll add a banana, yogurt, chocolate, wheat germ or flax meal.
One thing I always add is 1 tbl. Sugar Free Vanilla Pudding it has 25 calories, 6 car, 0 fat, 0 protein. The pudding makes the flavor very good. I usually use 2 cups of ice water to make the smoothie. You could add milk but you’d have to add the calories in. I make sure I always eat a piece of dry toast with my smoothies. Most of the time I use 1/2 cup egg white powder + 2 cups of water + spices and extras. It's very filling and yummy.
I use Designer Whey. I blend it with frozen strawberries and it taste great to me. A thing of it has 34 servings. Each scoop is 100 calories and 18 grams of protein. 2.5g of fat I believe.
I like plain, unflavored whey protein isolate 90/10 (meaning 90% protein). I buy it from a local cheesmaker's retail store (a lot cheaper than buying online or in health food stores or even Walmart).
I like that the flavor is mild (I'm not a fan of soy protein, because I find it bitter - though I like tofu and textured soy protein).
I am not too impressed with the powder I have now (Naturally Prefered) it's kind of bitter if I'm not careful. Once it's gone I am going to try Designer since I have heard so much about it OR I might ask the CSA if they have any of the whey protein isolate since they started selling cheese!
EAS Vanilla Whey Protein. It has 120 cal per scoop and 26 g protein, so I might be looking for a less calorie dense powder. It tastes fine in my smoothies though!! Thats a major bonus!
I have tried many and I only like Isopure Zero, creamy vanilla flavor. I use the powder, water, a little fruit, and crushed ice to make a smoothie. Super filling! I get it on Amazon, GNC has it but it is way more expensive there.
I'm in love with Syntrax Nectar. They have tons of flavors but my fav is vanilla bean torte. 100 cals per scoop, no fat or carbs and pretty darn tasty as far as protein powder goes.
I use Costco's protein powder. It's 150 calories for 2 scoops, and that gets you 26g of protein and it's 7-9 carbs. It tastes like a milk shake. I love it post workout when I know I need the protein to help my muscles recover. Oh and I get Chocolate.
