Also - I notice that a lot of members here have weight loss tickers, when I try to click on them they bring me to the main page - how do I get one of those?
ohh, let's see if I remember it correctly... I think you had to be on the site for a certain period of time (20 days, if I read it correctly) and/or post 20 times. But I'm not sure, so if you want to be certain go to Announcements>Announcements & Forum Help

If you're curious about Low Carb there's a section dedicated to just that. Look around there to get some ideas about how other people are handling it.
Tickers - You must be a member for 20 days and have 20 posts in order to have a ticker. It's actually a good mini-goal. Staying on track and being healthier for just 20 days. (Goes by really fast!)
