Default shift away from #s

I think it is time for me to break away from obsessing about the #s a bit... I have been weighing myself daily for the past 9 months. I am making a committment to myself to only weigh once a week now instead of every day. I know that this is going to be a huge challenge for me so any support is greatly appreciated I want to start the shift into healthy living, measuring my success by how I feel and look instead of the #s. I will still be very aware of the #s but just don't want them to play such a huge daily role in my life...

Congrats on your decision. I still weigh myself every day. I wouldn't so much if I didn't want to get into the air force soooo much. If not for the air force, I would probably continue gaining more and more because I don't hate my body until I ate myself up to 100lbs or more. How is it going for you?

I think you can weigh yourself everyday if you just take it as information. I quit obsessing about it a couple of months ago- however I weigh 3-7 times throughout the day just to see where I am. I think it keeps me on track. I just don't get myself in a tizzy about every fluctuation. I know I am doing all that I can do and I rely on that. But- we all have to ind what works for us!

This is something I always have a problem with. I tend to get discouraged by my numbers if they are not where I want them to be. Rather than using it as motivation to get my butt in gear, it makes me want to give up. I have started locking the scale in the linen closet during the week and only taking it out on the weekend for my scheduled weigh in. It's tempting to check sometimes, but the bonus is how nice it is to see a big loss after a week of hard work )

I was a weekly weigher, now i've been a daily weigher for a long time. I seen people on here saying they weighed every day so I started too. Now im obsessed also. I really want to start only weighting once a week but its HARD =(

Oh my goodness, southernbelle, you are doing so amazing!

I am actually in awe of your having weighed daily all this time without going insane. When I first got started (for the first probably 6-7 months), I could only get myself on the scale once a month. I knew I was doing what needed to be done, but I was terrified of what seeing those daily fluctuations would do to my head. I'm kinda an "all or nothing" thinker, and I think if I would have seen the scale staying the same for a stretch, it would have sent me into "okay, time to start starving or doing SOMETHING to move those numbers!". Or, of course, worse, "the heck with it, then".

I'm still at the point where I can only manage a weekly weigh-in. I whoosh, and it's bad enough seeing the scale stay the same for a week or 2 before a loss. It is just not a good equation for me to weigh 14 times only to stay the same or (heaven forbid) see a gain in the daily fluctuations.

It's funny the different perspectives! Because I aspire to being able to weigh daily without it completely derailing my plan, while lots of others find NOT weighing daily a plan-derailer. Only you know how to play your own mind game, so if you think it's best, make the change and see how it goes.

Best wishes! I'm very inspired by your progress!

Over 140 pounds lost! OMG -- that is absolutely amazing! Do you have any clue how much of an inspiration you are to people here on this board? Wow!

So, yeah....I hear what you are saying. I am an everyday weigher as well. As much as I try not to, I'm like an addict. But I do keep things in perspective now. Have you thought about buying a pair of mini-goal pants? I do this instead of measuring because I never hit the same spot with the tape measure! For example, I am currently in a size 12 but I went to Wal-Mart on Monday and bought a cheap pair of size 10's. I take pictures of myself in them the day I get them and then 2 weeks (or whatever) afterwards to see how they are fitting differently and where. It's the most motivating thing I do for myself when the #'s on the scale are just downright LYING! :-)

I hear ya. I have to do measurements to prevent the scale from being a demotivator. The fluctuations out of nowhere can really be upsetting, even if you know why it's up. I still weigh often but when the scale is saying the weight is creeping up when I know it shouldn't be, the measuring tape confirms my size is getting smaller.

I have been a daily weigher for as long as I can remember but on March 14th I weighed for the last time. I challenged myself to not get on the scale for a whole month. Part of the reason was because regardless of the fact that I KNOW my weight fluctuates from day to day it still got me down and put me in a mopey mood when I didn't see the number on the scale that I wanted. The other part of the reason was because I just wanted to be surprised with a big drop that I would see over the course of the month.

It was soooooo hard at first, man I was tempted to step on that scale! Especially on those morning when I woke up and just felt like I had lost some weight. But I've gone almost 2 weeks without it and now there are some mornings when it doesn't even occur to me. I'm really looking forward to April 10th because that is when I will weigh again

First I have to say WOW you have lost 141 lbs that is amazing and jumping on the scale every day didn't stop you from loosing that much! WTG! Ok second I have learned if I jump on the scale daily because I am obsessed with it lol I take the average on the week. add each weight for 7 days then divided it by 7 that's the average. But GO you for not doing you weight daily. Good luck and I hope it works out for you! I know its easier when you first start to lose weight to just weigh every day to see the change until you can see the change in the mirror! But if you cant stop doing it every day I recommend doing it the way I do because its so much less disappointing!! Good luck again!
