Default Motorcycle Accident

First off - no, it wasn't me. I'm scared to death of motorcycles.

I was at lunch with my mom today, and we were eating outside, when we heard a car horn. We turned around and about 100 yards away, there was a guy on the ground, about 5 feet from his motorcycle, who was struggling to get up.

My mom and I bolted down there, she helped him get to the curb to sit down and I called 911. The guy is 73, he was wearing a helmet. Thank God everyone was mostly ok; no one was seriously harmed (the speedlimit on that road was 25mph). I'm not sure who was at fault. I've heard so many stories lately about acquaintances recently getting into motorcycle accidents, that nearly witnessing one has left me shaking as I returned back to work.

I just felt like telling someone. Maybe we can all keep the motorcyclist and the driver in our thoughts and prayers.

That is a good idea. Seeing someone get in an accident really can make you remember to be grateful for being alive.

He's lucky he's okay those things are so dangerous. I couldn't imagine flying off of one of those especially on the high way. People die or end up paralyzed that way all the time. I know just riding around on a bicycle I've been hit four times and it seriously hurt. I can't imagine how bad it would have been had we both been speeding towards each other. eeeek.

Wow!! I'm sorry to hear that! Glad you're ok. There was a bicyclist who was hit by a car around here a few weeks ago and that didn't end up well. :/

thanks. i lucked out. twice it was someone was completely stopped and i was riding on the side walk and i guess they didn't see me because they hit the gas right when i was in front of them and twice was at a red light when i had the right of way and a car decided to make a right turn super fast because they didn't want to wait for the light ended up slamming into me. all of them but one just drove off but one. i was lucky i just messed up my back and my hand. the back still gives me problems every once in awhile but my hand has fully recovered.

I'm a motorcycle rider and it is scary getting on the bike sometimes. No matter how much I am aware of what's going on around me, there is always someone on their phone or dazing off that is not paying attention. That is when most accidents happen. I've seen a lot of bad motorcycle accidents and a few of them with fatalities. Scary Stuff!

Treena, that was very good of you and your mom to help the fallen motorcyclist! good Samaritan awards to you

I am also an avid motorcycle rider. Yes there are risks, we have to be more than doubly aware of our surroundings than if on 4 wheels.

Also I'll insert a shameless plug to do the 'Look Twice, Safe a Life' statement, especially in upcoming Springtime when there will be many more motorcycles on the road.

This sounds like an awesome idea to me. My brother was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2005. I firmly believe, that while a lot of people think motorcycles are unsafe, that the other drivers on the road, are the ones that make it unsafe. Rarely do drivers in cars pay attention to bikers.
