I have a 30 minute layover today at JFK. 30 minutes seems REALLY short and I'm worried about a delay. JFK is also a major airport and I just read that it's pretty busy and hard to navigate. Both of my flights are United but I'm afraid that I'll have to go across the airport and miss my flight . Is it doable? Will I have to run or can I calm down a little bit? I'm trying to take into account getting off the plane, finding the terminal, boarding, and the gate closing etc.
You'll be fine! I live in NYC and fly out of JFK quite often for work. I much prefer it to Laguardia, and the terminals are nicely organized. Unless you're changing air carriers, you'll be in the same general area as your departing flight. No worries!
I just flew through there last week. Usually you are in the same general area if you are flying the same airline...unless you are going international from there. Then sometimes it is a different terminal. When you get off the plane the first thing you want to do is find out your next flight information. I feel that there were plenty of signs that led you in the right direction. They also have the train that takes you from terminal to terminal. I only had 15min between flights. I made it there no problem.
JFK is not a major United hub and I believe all United flights are in and out of Terminal 7, which isn't too big. 30 minutes is tight but you should be able to make it.
I was actually wrong, my flight is Delta, not United. It looks like Delta goes out of terminals 2, 3, and 4, which actually makes me pretty nervous. Do you think I'll still be able to make it?
Hopefully your flights will all be contained within the same terminal. If not, you may need to hustle.
The most important thing to do is to stay zen about it. Panicking doesn't fix anything and neither does worrying. Often airport personnel can be very accommodating to travelers with tight connections.
Oh I see they are different airlines. Ok, if you have never been there before my suggestion is as soon as you get off the plane ask someone where exactly the gates you are looking for are located. That way you are not wasting any time wandering around. I would still think as long as your flight is on time you will be all set.
Also pay attention to the announcements they give you as you land. If you need to take a bus to the terminal you go to next you need to catch that info.
It depends. Terminal 2 is for domestic and international flights like London, Canada, etc. . Terminal 4 is for international flights anywhere else.
If you're domestic, you'll either stay in Terminal 3 or be in Terminal 2. Even if you have to cross from one terminal to the other, there's a covered bridge/gateway that you can take that connects terminal 2 and 3 together.
You should be fine! I've done JFK in less time than that! The terminals aren't huge (even if they look like it on the map) and you can always tell your flight attendant that you have a short connection and usually they will help you out (either by giving you advice on where the gate is or letting you off the plane first).
Thanks guys, I actually had no problems at all. I literally like got off at gate 24 and my next flight was gate 25, I hardly even had to walk 50 steps. I was stressed out for no reason .
