I would say that I feel PCOS is related/similar to diabetes. If your food is out of whack, your blood sugar is out of whack and thus you are out of whack.
I found that cutting out refined/processed foods ended a lot of issues for me. I never ate low carb although I was carb conscious but it was more important to me to eat plenty of whole, unprocessed foods. I then switched to a high carb diet and I wasn't sure what would happen but my symptoms were still mostly under control. So to me, it is really the idea of eating whole foods that is important.
