I used to roller skate when I was about 5th grade and now in my twenties I want to try it again! Unless I am too old? lol
I think it would be fun to pick up again because it would be like exercise but not boring like running on a treadmill for an hour. It would be exercise I would look forward to, and would keep in my life. Plus, I might meet new people and it would be social!
However, I have no one to go with...and what if I fall? I think I would buy some wrist protectors or something. Plus, I am in my twenties, are all the other skaters going to be teens?
What do you think?
Has anyone gone skating after years of not?
I go roller skating at least twice a week when it's nice weather. I'm also in my twenties and I don't really see a problem It's fun, it's healthy, you have to do it again I go roller skating outside, in parks or so, many of them have rodes just for bikes and rollerskaters. In winter i go ice-skating so fun never ends Go! And share the expirience (my butt is always killing me after 1 hour of this, it can't be bad )
The old ice arena in our little town has redone the floor for roller skating! There is a huge resurgence in roller derby and they have public roller skating on Saturday nights for $5 and it includes skate rental So I have started skating again - sometimes with my husband and our friends, sometimes alone depending on all of the work schedules - I had to miss last night. I bought a set of pads second hand for 8 dollars ( wrist, elbow, knees). It is great fun and great exercise ( now that I'm not clinging to the boards on the edges, but actually skating....oh yeah ....I'm 51 years old and hadn't been on roller skates since I was 15 years old. GO FOR IT!!!!!
yeah, I've been wanting to do that too (in my 40s). People of all ages rollerblade and rollerskate in the big park up the street from us, and in Central Park too. I see the knee and hand pads, and some have helmets.
maybe if you start mentioning to people you know that you're doing it, you'll get someone to join you, even if they don't want to skate. have fun!
Yes, well I was going to go to a rink in our area and I guess I figured it would be more teens or really young kids...
I would think otherwise it would be a fun, whole body workout...it would be good for balance and even core? I might go the next day I have a saturday off!
I go rollerskating pretty often with my children. There are several rinks in our area and during public skating sessions there's usually a good mix of people ranging from young kids to adults. We also have Adult Skate nights every week and you have to be 18 or older to get in.
WOOO! Roller skating!! I was awesome back in about 5-7th grades. Went to Roller Chalet for 2 sessions every Sunday, and I was the queen of backwards skating. I haven't roller skated in at least 28 years, but my daughter loves it, and once I'm under 200 lbs I'm SO taking her and skating myself. Thanks for the reminder!
The title of this post reminded me of my attempt at roller blading. I decided that when I lost 40 lbs I would get roller blades. Well, I put them on once and about killed myself just trying to stand up. I didn't realize that out my entrance it was actually slightly hilly, so I rolled and couldn't stop myself. I thought I was going to die and fell on my hands catching myself from a worse fall. I never put them on again and sold them for nearly nothing a few years later. They were literally on my feet for 5 minutes!
I roller skated a bit, but we never lived close to a rink and I never had money, but why, in your twenties would you think you are too old? Get over that one RIGHT quick. No one is too old to do something fun that is good for them!
I went rollerblading last year at age 29 (along with my son). Unfortunately, I forgot to check the brakes first! It was scary when I realized I couldn't stop, but luckily I hit a speed bump, literally, and slowed enough to where I regained control. It's still fun!
