Question Birthday Cake substitutions- Suggestions please!

Wednesday is my birthday (Im dreading turning 26) and in my Family birthdays are a big deal. We get a cake at midnight, a morning cake, an evening big cake and then another cake on our party day. My Family are all lucky to be skinny though. I asked my Mom to get a sugar free cake for my evening cake so I can at least have a few bites. I started eating low calorie foods in October and have lost 72 pounds. I never cheat but my birthday is going to be an exception. I deserve at least a taste. So today my Mom asked what are we going to do for the midnight and morning cakes? I had totally forgotten about those. My reply was artichokes? lol I love artichokes. So I told her Id figure it out and let her know.

So please, any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

haha nice - what a celebration! I bet that SO FUN as a kid!

Are you going to have cake or notcake treat? I think its great to have a sugarfree 'official' Bday cake and substitute the others by picking your absolute favorite healthy on-plan breakfast item and absolute favorite healthy on-plan treat for midnight. If your little heart is set on following that grand old tradition you could do one piece (or cupcake) of Dt. Coke cake. One can of Dt. Coke with one box cake mix. With 12 servings it is something like 188 calories.

dark pop for chocolate mix
light pop for white mix

top with fruit and/or ff coolwhip.

Life's too short to not enjoy birthday cake.
Eat the cake, enjoy it, and get back on plan the next day.

Happy Birthday

Angel Food cake is probably the best choice , Angel Food cake has no oil in it so it is lower in calories. Frost with Cool Whip , practically no calories there. Garnish with a few fresh strawberries or blueberries ( Not Sugared) This is a delicious , low calorie cake.

My mom made me one of those fruit arrangements (like Edible Arrangements) for my birthday cake with some of the fruit dipped in dark chocolate. It could replace one of the cakes and definitely looks festive and celebratory. You could also request a flower cake for one of them (I think FTD makes one)...you can still blow out a candle, but there's nothing to eat. Personally, between those, the sugar free cake, and a real cake to splurge on, you could enjoy the tradition, but not feel like you're splurging 4 times over...

What about a healthy breakfast muffin with a candle in it? I just made some pumpkin muffins with whole wheat and flax seed - very healthy, and cupcake enough to pass as cake for breakfast.

I second the angel food cake with fresh fruit - in fact, I would go for that over the sugar free cake, but if you could get sugar free angel cake then you'd really be set! Another low cal option are meringues. You can buy some that are shaped like rings and put a strawberry with a candle in it in the middle.

Basically, any cake that isn't butter based and instead made with egg whites. You can get fat free pound cake at the store too. I am not sure on the calories though.

Sugar free pudding is very low-calorie, and you could use sugar free cool-whip and make parfaits to be more festive.

For me, I would do a cake made with baking splenda in place of sugar, applesauce instead of oil with some fruit added to it to lower the calories and fat. As for the frosting, how about SF instant pudding mixed with FF/lite cool whip? Very versatile and easy!

Enjoy and Happy Birthday!!
