Goals my husband set for me

  • So my husband I are both doing atkins and we set goals/rewards for reaching them non-food goals of course. He does not have that much weight to lose but wants to support me in my new healthy lifestyle.

for every 20lbs lost I get a pedicure
55 lbs lost I get a new Coach Purse (I have my own closet of purses and he knows thats my weakness)
100lbs lost we go on a tropical vacation (I think I want to wait till goal to do this so I am comfortable in pictures and in a bathing suit)

I asked him what he wanted for rewards and he asked for a new watch lol!! He's easy to please I know these things sounds frivilous but it's what will keep me going. I showed my husband my weight for the first time ever by getting on the scale for him, it was hard but it's all part of my journey. I also have to show him when I hit goals so that keeps me motivated too.

  • thats really awesome and not frivilous at all eveybody needs rewards to keep them going! i made a deal with my dh one time that if i lost the weight i was going to get a boob job lol and its really awesome that you got on the scale for him i still cant do that yet just becuase my man has an 8 pack and all i really feel uncomfterble but i told him i would get on the scale for him the second i weighted less than him lol
  • That is good motivation. I hope you are mostly doing this for yourself and your well being and not for him. Being comfortable with yourself is the key. Keep it up, I know you can do it! He does seem easy to please though. lol.
  • Oh I am doing it for myself. He just helps me find rewards to help along the way. He supports whatever I decide, not pushy at all I will show him my weight as a way to be accountable and honest with myself when I reach my goals.

I also mentioned getting a boob job if I lose all of mine lol, he is not too keen on it but said we would talk about it when the time comes. I am more concerned about excess skin and that would be first to get taken care of if needed. My health comes first and foremost so I am not really thinking about cosmetic surgery as a goal.
  • GREAT JOB and especially when starting - whatever keeps you motivated.

At first I wanted 'rewards' for certain weights - but honestly I have been carrying this extra.......we actually it has been CREEPING on for the last 15 years, so to be loosing, feels AWESOME!!!!! That's my rewards!

HOWEVER - my daughter graduates from high school in June and we are all going on a cruise at the end of June, so there is a goal for me!

My husband is doing this also - the doctors orders so it really helps that he and I are eating the same things!

    GLAD YOU'RE HERE!
  • My work pants are too big! WOOHOO!!

My weight is the same as yesterdays so I am not complaining, I dropped those 12lbs in a week so I am still happy.

I never did 'rewards' before, I've tried and failed at losing weight so many times that now I am looking for things to motivate me because I am determined to succeed this time. I told my husband that we are not going out for dinner on valentine's day but that we could buy each other a little something instead

  • Well done on the big trousers!

My brother is getting married in Aug, my other two siblings are married already. So this is the last one to go, Im determined to be thinner than the other weddings. Ive promised myself a day out shopping nearer the time to pick out a outfit, even more worth it as I have two boys who are 3 and 3 months. Shopping trips dont really happen anymore
  • I think the non-food rewards are an awesome way to go! It's just that little extra motivation, aside from your real reasons for losing weight Congratulations on your weight loss so far! Makes me want to think up some little "prizes" for certain weight-loss milestones..
  • I am 5lbs away from my first pedicure I am hoping I am there by the weekend but not likely lol. I have a pair of jeans in my closet I 'grew' out of last fall that I want to try on but I am still hesitant. I don't want to be disappointed if they don't fit. I don't see a difference in the mirror yet but that could be because I see myself everyday in the mirror. My clothes definitly fit better though.

ETA: My husband bought me a nice chain with a hercules knot pendant for valentine's day and I got him a power drill he's been asking for lol. I told him to build me another shelf for my new purse that I will be getting soon
  • When I get under 300 lbs, I'm getting an ipad as a birthday present (or late birthday present if I don't make 299 by March 20th).

Today he's making a steak dinner for Valentine's Day, so we can control the calories and carbs. We've been doing very well avoiding restaurant eating, and we decided not to break our streak by eating out (We both cook better than most restaurants we can afford anyway).

I give myself a small reward (worth about $5 orf less usually, sometimes even free like a specific book from the library) for every 5 lbs lost. Hubby doesn't really go into the rewards as much as I do. In fact, he's expressed concern when I talk about some small trinket that I'm close to "earning," and he says that I shouldn't deprive myself of stuff I need or want because I'm not at some arbitrary weight. I assured him that I'm not depriving myself, it's just a game I play with myself. Just because I've selected a specific book for my next 5 lb goal, doesn't mean I won't read until I lose 5 lbs. I just can't read THAT specific book until I lose the 5 lbs. And I usually pick entirely frivolous things for my rewards (my next small reward is a pattern book of crocheted slippers).

For a while I had stopped planning the rewards in advance. I decided to choose the reward after I'd earned it (keeping in mind the usual $5 limit), and while it worked for a while, it definitely lost effectiveness as a reward. The anticipation of the specific reward apparently has more power than the intangible reward of losing the weight or even the generic idea of getting a reward.

I don't think it's the reward itself as much as the added excitement. Weight loss can be so boring if effort isn't made to spice it up.
