I decided I'm going to do a half marathon. It's 16 weeks away! I'm going to start training tomorrow! Does anyone have any advice? I love to run but never have seen how far I can actually go.
Are you following one of the programs such as those by Hal Higdon or Jeff Galloway? I think those are really good as they help you ramp up your distance steadily, so decreasing the risk of injury from overtraining. I believe going too hard or too fast at first is why so many recreational runners hurt themselves, and one of those plans is a good way to avoid that.
I'll second Julesp's suggestion of going with a program. There are plenty out there and some are free on the internet. I used Galloway's method to train for a full marathon last year and thought it worked out great. Doing walk/run technique let me train without injuries and allowed me to finish my first marathon.
