My daughter is turning 1 in 6 days and she got this musical table from Santa for Christmas, and she adores it!

Oh, she also got a "You & Me" baby doll for Christmas...and I thought it was a little old for her, but she loves it too - she presses its tummy to make it giggle, kisses it and feeds the bottle to it....so cute!!

lol I just realized 6 days is next Friday! haha....are you sure you're not Katie's grandma??

Weebles. My 1 year old loves the Weebles Musical tree house we got her for her birthday. And also just about anything else that makes music, like music tables and toy pianos. Her other favorite, the Playskool Explore n' Grow Busy Ball Popper. She plays with that for hours. Only downside to that one is there is only one volume setting (loud), but as you're a grandparent and not the parent I doubt that's a huge concern for you! lol

My kids loved this: http://www.hasbro.com/playskool/en_U...911&src=endeca

(As the mother, I did not share their enthusiasm but those are the kinds of gifts grandmothers like to give, it seems).

I second the musical table. My son played with it before he could pull up (we removed the legs and put it on the floor) until he was around 18 months or older. He's still interested it in now that we pulled it out for my 5 month old daughter.

I remember my son beginning to play with MegaBloks around that age. He would stack them as high as he could then go berzerk laughing when they fell over. He and his Daddy still build huge towers and monsters in his bedroom on Saturday mornings.

I third the musical table. We bought 2 (one for our house and one for her house) for granddaughter when she was about 9 months...she didn't want to crawl but wanted to stand and loved this. She is now 16 months old and still plays with it, plus it's educational. I am all into the educational toys. Just about anything musical or something she can push she loves, and books.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I have a musical table at my house and gave her one for Christmas. I love them! The other grandma gave her the PLAYSKOOL EXPLORE N’GROW BUSY BALL POPPER for Christmas. Amy, I had to laugh because you are right, that is the kind of toy grandmothers like to give!

Her main present is a cedar chest because I wanted to give her something that she will have all of her life. My daughter helped me pick it out, so I know that she approves. As a grandmother, I have been careful to discuss such things with my daughters because I remember what it is like to have things brought in that I did not want my children to have.

Anyway, I also wanted to give her a couple of fun things. She does not have any Weebles, so I think I will get her something from that line. I also got her a Leapfrog Counting Candles Birthday Cake because it is just so cute for a birthday!

I have trouble restraining myself in the toy department!

Manipulatives to encourage fine motor skills.

Those link things, chubby pop beads, chunky Lego bricks (Duplo), bristle blocks, shape sorters, etc.

Of all of them I like the chunky Lego because those last a few years. Even chunky, older kids still like to play with them.

A.

I like the wooden toolbox! All the pieces are wooden, my daughter had one when she was little and its great. I think its Melissa and Doug but I sure cant remember. I also saw a little plastic talking tea set that was really adorable. I got my niece a pull along retro telephone at Target and she loves it.

I love the cedar chest!
