Default Unsure of what size I want to be..

This is kind of odd, but I'm slightly confused about how I'm going to end up after this diet. Background is that I used to weigh 345 pounds and I've never really been under that. Lately my friends and family have been saying "wow don't lose another 70 pounds!" I kind of want to end up at 140, and I'm 5'10. Right now I'm at 210 pounds. My mom was saying she worries that I'm not going to be able to tell that I'm thin enough well before 140. I'm not entirely sure about my body type, but everyone has me all confused! This guy said he'd guess that I weigh 170 pounds now, which is silly and he probably doesn't realize that I'm tall? I don't think I look 170.. I still think I look like 230ish. Anyways, I guess I don't have to decide now but I was just thinking if there's anyone who's been my sizeish and knows how they ended up.. do I want "meat on my bones"? Do you think I'll be able to tell when I'm thin enough? (sometimes I don't feel like I've lost as much weight as I have as it is). Could this become a problem? Hmm, I worry that I'm going to have some type of image issues and not know what I'm supposed to look like. I've always been kind of a worry wart and I'm probably just worrying for nothing but I'd like your advice and opinions!

Here's a picture of me from last weekend with my friends, I'm in the purple with leggings, super dark hair (new color!) and belt:

Congrats on the amazing weight loss so far!! That is just awesome! You also look great!! Here is my take on your question, based on what I want for myself. I just want to be healthy. I want to be at a healthy weight. You are tall, so honestly, 140 sounds kind of small to me ( That is my goal weight at 5'4) But of course, not everyone is the same, 140 on a 5'10 height may be perfect for some.

I hope this helps. Good Luck on the rest of your journey. How have you been doing it so far?

Well, I don't know the answer to this but in calculating your BMI at 140 with how tall you are. You would be right in the middle of the normal range.

There is a way to measure your wrist to see if you have a large or small bone structure, which may help.

But, I would go with how I FEEL. If you have lots of energy, your not hungry all the time, if your body doesn't fight getting to 140. If you are able to exercise, and feel good doing it, then I would say its a great weight.

If you feel yucky than add 5 pounds and see how you feel.....

People are all going to tell you to not loose anymore because they are USED to you being at your former weight. Is all new to them also. But they will get used to the new you!!!

You are doing great keep up the good work!!!

Ok, well here's my point of view. You look amazing now! You really do! I'm just about your height and you look WAY thinner than I do! That said, I think you should just take it one step at a time and decide as you go along. I think BMI is kind of weird and not everyone fits into a formula. But, I think it does tell us something about our general health. So, I think you should see how you look at the high end of normal BMI and see how you like it. I think that would probably be perfect and if not, do whatever makes you comfortable. You're beautiful right now!!!

I really wouldn't have guessed that you were over 200 from the picture. You look amazing! Cute outfit too btw
I'm 5'10 as well, and right now I'm shooting for 175ish to start with, and see what happens once I get there.

Actually, the BMI would be right around 20 and that is very low, not the middle of the healthy range.

Nessa, I think you're gorgeous! I agree with the guy who guessed 170! You look absolutely amazing, you really do. I would shoot for a BMI below 25 and re-assess as you go along. That's what I'm doing. I'm fighting to get to 145, just inside my healthy range, and then I'll see how much further I want to go. Right now my ultimate goal is 135, but we'll see.

I never would have guessed you weigh 210 - and you look fantastic. I think 140 may be kind of low for your height - but not sure.

I can share a little story with you though. 15 years ago I had lost about 30 pounds, exercised and was a very fit 114 lbs. After I had my daughter, about a year later, I was hovering at 128-130. Mind you, I would KILL to be 130 right now - but at the time, I thought I was heavy and joined WW! I remember people thinking I was nuts - but in my head - I was heavy. Totally weird. I think the "number" played with my mind too much.

I would not think about the number - and just get to a point where you are very happy with how your body looks.

Remember that you don't ever have to commit to a "forever decision," your goal can be modified at any point in time.

If you're concerned that your goal is too high or too low, just ask your doctor. When you get to that weight, if you still want to lose more weight, ask your doctor again.

Remember that there is no perfect weight. Healthy weight is always going to be a range, not a magic number, and the range is probably wider the more healthy habits you have.

Your weight range is also going to depend on your goals. Are you wanting to be model thin? Do you want to look average (and it's ok if you do, I'm not putting down average. I'd certainly love average), or do you want a body that's strikingly, drop-dead gorgeous. Are you wanting to be in "reasonably good health" or do you want to be a top athlete?

My trainer told me that I would be a size 6 at 157lbs. I WAS NOT a size 6 at that weight. I think I was an 8. I didn't really focus on weight amounts, but more of clothing size. Simply because all of our bodies are so different. I feel more confident saying I'm an a letter size than a number.

You look GREAT! I wouldn't guess you weigh over 200lbs either! WTG!

140 is quite thin at 5'10. I'm 5'8" and 140 is a stretch goal for me. (I also am quite large chested, so that adds at least 5 pounds to my frame I think).

As you get lower, your body will let you know where it feels good. And if you are strength training, you might have a higher weight but wear a smaller size.

you have come a long way and look great!

I'm about 5 ft. 9, and my original goal was 160. I reached 160 and tried to find my maintenance calories, but due to weird TOM issues I lost another 20 before I evened out. So I'm about an inch shorter than you and weigh 140. People tell me I'm too thin, but I'm not. I'm not bony - I have muscle. I wear anywhere from a size 2 to a size 6 on the bottom, depending on the brand and store, and an XS to medium on top, again depending on brand and store.

ALL THE TIME I get people telling me to gain weight, that I lost too much. They guess I weigh 120 or lower and can't believe when I tell them I weigh 140-145. My husband has had to argue with people who have assumed I don't eat or weigh too little.

So I understand where you're coming from. It has taken me a while to come to terms with this, but don't listen to what anyone says. Listen to yourself and pay attention to your body. Stop when you feel comfortable with yourself. Don't let 140 scare you away if that's what you want to do, and don't assume your body at that weight will look like anyone else's.

Do you need a target to lose?

IMO when you feel good and look good and can live with what it takes to remain at that size, you've found a decent weight for yourself.

Wow so much advice! Thank you all

The whole BMI thing confuses me and the wrist thing throws me off. I started out thinking I had a large frame, but now my waist is way smaller than my mom's and my shoulder width and arm size has changed a lot too. I try looking at my mom's body to see if that's what I'm going to look like, but as I've gotten thinner I realize our bodies are wayy different, so it just confuses me. I do think people say "don't lose too much more" because they're used to the me I was before.

Kimberly - I agree that the number plays with your mind! Like, I see myself in the mirror and I feel pretty decent looking (way better than I was before) and I feel more energetic; but seeing that I'm still in the 200's is just making me see things differently. And I must say thank you to all of you who say I don't look like I'm in the 200's! Woo! I cannot tell you how nice it is to hear things like that! haha. I don't want to be model thin (can't even imagine being able to with the wide hips and big boobs and butt that I've got! ha) but I just want to be pretty thin! And healthy, able to run without being winded, able to wear cute clothes without feeling huge, etc.

I suppose I was just wanting a magic number so I can finally say "only 70/60/50/40 pounds left" but you guys are right, it's not about the numbers so much as how I feel! Thinking about it I guess it's true that no one can really tell me what number will be best for me because no one has the same body as me.

I've decided I'm going to quit thinking of the big target and start thinking "I'd like to not eat an extra piece of toast at breakfast today, and drink more water today, and workout and possibly lose 3 pounds this week." That can be my "big" target! And to stop dwelling on hitting my smallest weight, and start enjoying the weight I'm at (which is smaller than I've been in years), and appreciate the process.

Thanks so much for the advice ladies! Feeling like I had a major revelation today

You're all gorgeous!

Frame size confuses me too. Supposedly you are supposed to be able to tell by how big your wrists are but my wrist size is changing as I lose (yes...i was fat even there)
