Smile Newcomer, looking for partner for friendly competition as motivation :)

Hey all!

Just found this community.

Basically, I go to a college in Illinois, US for Fiber Art BFA

I'm 20, 5'5", and 255lb, looking to lose about 120lb in the long run, but hopefully at least 75lb by 2012.

What I'm looking for is someone to correspond with who is willing to help motivate me as I motivate them, and maybe just compete in a very friendly way to help each other lose weight and get healthier. SO ideally I'd look for someone who needs to lose a significant amount of weight like I do, and is willing to correspond with me... kind of like penpals but on the computer.

If not, thats fine too, I just think that by sharing our progress with each other, it would motivate both parties to keep going and "beat" the other person by achieving their own goals!

Hi there, howellbe! Not sure exactly what kind of person you are looking for, but I have about 60 lbs to lose (perhaps more), and I just started jogging with the couch to 5k program. I am a calorie counter, and I am for most of my calories in lean proteins and veggies and fruits. If I am someone you would enjoy support with, I'm sure I could be there for you. Do you have a plan? If interested in correspondance, let me know! I have subsribed to this thread to see all responses.

Very best of luck, -J

Hey, I'm kind of in the same boat you are. I'm a tad younger and taller but I'm looking to lose at least 60 lbs. this year (I'm about 242 right now. ) I'm also a calorie counter! Let me know if you're interested in exchanging correspondence!

Hey thanks or replying. Just thought it would be nice to give each other progress reports and a little encouragement.

I do have a plan.

I want to maybe use the PM system? Haven't used it yet.

Hi there, howellbe! Am I weird? I'm not sure what the PM system is. Let me know, as I am interested!

Here is my update so far: Today is going to be my 4th jogging day in a week. I want to workout at least 3 days a week. The scale actually went UP this week by a pound, but I'm not worried about it - my boyfriend told me that when you start a jogging regimen, your muscles retain extra water for a few weeks, so I think I'll lay off the scale for another week or two.

I am also starting a 7 day detox tomorrow. It's nothing crazy: basically a lot of steamed chicken and veggies, coupled with some natural cleansing products. My girlfriend does this once a year, and she says she feels great after. It also means absolutely no wine, but it's worth it. Heehee!

How are you doing? Are you having fun with it, are you motivated? I'm trying to treat is as a game, or a project. I'm trying not to think any negative thoughts like "dieting sucks", because you know what sucks more? The way my body feels with all this extra weight on it.

Let me know how you are doing - I hope very well!

-J
