  • My Endo really wants me to be back on Met. She wants me to take the lowest dose, so for now we are seeing how 500 mg does for me. She redrew labs today, hopefully will be starting Synthroid again soon. But what dose of Met are you on, and has it helped you with weight loss/AF? Thanks!
  • I am on 1500 mg, extended release, per day. Haven't been on it long enough to know how much difference it'll make, except that I've been WAY less blood sugar sensitive (I used to get some crazy lows) since going on it right before Christmas.
  • I take 1700mg every day. I hope that its working. I really can't tell.
  • I am on nothing right now. I was given "Up to you if you want to take 500 to see if it helps with the weight loss, but you don't really need it IR wise any more."

I decided to fly without, but I have lab on Thurs and then doc appt 2 weeks later so we'll see what that is like.

In the past I was at 2000 mg XR. For me it stopped weight gain, and helped some with cravings. But no weight loss, which is why I didn't bother with the 500.

As far as menses... It did bring my cycles to every other month and I conceived that way. (Which is when I started taking it way back then.)

But I'm back on BCP and that's a much more reliable and less painful cycle. (Orthocyclen)

  • I just went back on met but i'm doing a met/glyburide combo because my blood sugar numbers tend to run high. I take 500 mg of met and 5 mg of gly in the morning, and another 5 mg of gly a night, after another week i'll add another 500 mg of met at night
  • I would love to conceive just on Met. April mean 7 years of trying to get pregnant with PCOS, and I'm just sick of it all. I'm sick of having to fork out all this money just for treatments, and never having a positive result. This is why we are on break from treatments, but I would love for Met to bring a baby or at least bring me regular AF!
Thank you, your comments are very helpful.
  • PinkHoodie, Don't give up! Ive been TTC for 2 years already...been going to an infertility MD for 1 yr already...went to RE yesterday to start injections and I cant - I have a cyst! Its always one obstacle after another! Just think, when it does happen it will be worth all the trouble. Another thing to remember, Met reduces the chance of a MC to 8% which is the normal rate for anyone...I think for PCOS its way higher.
  • 500mg twice a day. I just started last week, so I'm not sure how it's going to work.
  • Well as far as stomach troubles, they seem to be letting up. I am always more constipated (tmi sorry) then anything. And it seems I am headed back that way after having some problems the first couple of days. So far so good on 500. Thanks for all the input.
  • 1500mg per day (3 x 500mg). I don't really notice any difference/benefits but am ever hopeful.
  • I am on 1500 a day
  • I'm on 1500mg per day (2x850mg), have been for the past year and I've had amazing results. I was prescribed met years ago but never took it because my doctors failed to explain to me just how much it might help me. They kept telling me it's to lose weight.

I've had great results as far as weight loss and restoration of my cycle is concerned. I've lost 85 lbs since May last year and my cycles are fully restored including ovulation. Needless to say, I'm very happy with it.
  • 1500 a day and hopeing it helps me!
  • I'm back on tomorrow when they call to tell me the prescription is ready.

500 mg. Nothing changed since last lab so she wants me to at least try 500 for now til next check up.

    Here we go again!

  • Good luck, astrophe.

What did you doc want to see in your labs?
