Its what I have and there are days when I feel so frustrated that my waist never seems to lose. My legs look fantastic....my triple chin is going away, its only a double now and my arms are looking okay too but my gut is as round as ever.
My pants fit very loosely in the legs but they are still slightly snug in the waist. It angers me to see no difference in this region of my body. Is there anyone else who has or had this issue while losing weight? If you have reached (or close to) goal...did the tummy finally go down? Is it in proportion to the rest of you now?
Oh, my goodness, girl, don't sweat it. It wasn't until the last 10 #s that I realized I actually *had a waist. And now I have to find it again! Really, if you are apple shaped, the waist will be the last body part to appear, but appear it will.
What WOE or plan are you on? Some of the plans, especially the ones that limit the types of carbs that are allowed, are thought to have more of an impact on the waist area than others.
Well, I have the exact opposite problem! I am a pear! My waist disappears, you can even see my ribs a bit, but then I still have this butt and fat and cellulite on my thighs. And then I envy the women walking by in shorts with the perfectly muscular legs.
My thighs and butt do eventually get smaller, but with lots of time. When I am around 145, I finally wear a size 8/10 in pants (and my shirts are 4/6). I found that I look great in shorter dresses and tights... better than in pants - so I stick with it. I'd say find the clothes that look best on an apple and work it. Lots of short shorts! Maybe black tighter shorts with black pantyhose underneath.... I also see that everyone is wearing those cut off jean shorts with pantyhose underneath.
I'm an hourglass or hour and a half glass that looked much more applelike with weight gain. I did the Belly Fat Cure and even though I'm not down that many pounds, most of the weight came off my gut.
If it makes you feel any better, I always thought I was an hourglass because my waist looked pretty good when I was heavier. Now that I am down to a low weight, it seems like my midsection won't budge and I have become an apple...
When you say you want to have a waist "again", does that mean you used to have one? If you used to have one, it's likely you'll have one again. (la jealousy)
Got to tell you that 6 years ago, when I got down to the last 16lbs, I was still an apple.
30 years ago, when I got down to 4lbs under goal - I was still an apple.
Short of removing ribs, I'm never going to have an hourglass - and I would so love one, it's so feminine! but hey, a 120lb apple is still better than a 242lb apple, so I'll settle for it!
I like to say (well I dont LIKE to say it) that Im 'bunch of grapes' shaped. Lol. and yes I do hope the random bulges go away or at least calm it down. It's killing me!
But I assume that if I keep working at it things will get better and if it doesnt get to be "perfect" at least Im working on myself. THats what matters.
At my heaviest weight, my waist to hip ratio was .94. With my last set of measurements (a couple of weeks ago) my waist to hip ratio is .82. Under 0.8 is my goal, based on what doctors say is best for reduced risk of heart disease.
So, I'm still an apple, but a much nicer proportioned one! I hope this gives you hope!
I'm an hourglass or hour and a half glass that looked much more applelike with weight gain. I.
Im same way, Im overweight by a good 60 lbs min, and of course a decent amount of it is on my stomach, so i obviously dont look like an hourglass now

Once upon a time i had an hourglass, then i met mr. junkfood lol
and i agree.. no matter what shape.. a healthy 120 shape is better then a not so healthy shape/
I am an apple and have always been an apple. I am continually frustrated to see people who weigh a lot more than me but wear a couple of sizes smaller.
Way back when I did loss a lot of weigh and was at my goal weight my waist did get smaller but it was still larger than most people of that weight. Very frustrating. When I got married I weighed 140 pounds (I am 5'4") and was upset because I had regained 15 pounds and thought I was so fat (I would love to weigh 140 now).
In my mind, my wedding dress was a 10. Well I just came across the dress this weekend (I was married in Vegas so it was a cocktail type dress) and it was a size 12. And I had to wear foundation garments to get into it due to my waist. I keep seeing others at 140 wearing way less than a 12.
I find this so frustrating to be an apple shape and it just never seems to get better! (that said I would rather be an apple with a 30" waist than an apple with a 43" waist).
That apple shape, especially if you used to have a waist, can also come from too many carbs. Carbs cause the body to store 4g of water for every 1 g of carbs. Upping the protein and lower the carbs somewhat can help get rid of some of that around the middle.
Ugh, yeah, I'm an apple, too. So far as I know, I've never had a waist that was more than 2-3 inches smaller than my hips. Bleh. But I've also been very overweight or obese my whole life (other than before puberty). So I could have one - I just don't know. Doubtful. In 60 lbs, my waist to hip ratio is still in the 90s. It's lowered by like .0077. Depressing, but what can I do? There is no spot reducing.
The one nice thing about being an apple is my legs - they show muscle easily and are shapely. My midsection and back... not a fan of how they hold fat. I'm going to have to hit goal at least before anything good happens, I'm sure. And I'll have zero butt by then - I barely have one now. Sheesh.
I'm hoping as my weight drops, more will come off my middle. Even with the too-much fat thing going on, it is SO much better now than before.

I'm not convinced that's true. I mean, yes, lowering carbs HELPS an apple shape, but I'm not convinced the apple shape "comes from" too many carbs. I think it's genetics.
At least for me, I have PCOS and was insulin resistant, yet I was never an apple, always an hour glass. I would have been an apple if apples were caused by too many carbs.
I know you all hate being apples...but dang those legs!
