Default help! what is your calorie count on this?

1 can light tuna in water, drained
1/2 low carb pita bread (Joseph's)
1 stalk celery
1/4 dill pickle
2 t chopped onion
3 tablespoons of light mayo

Caloriecount.com brings this in at 510 calories, but according to the packaging on my food (tuna and bread and mayo), I'm getting closer to 350. Ugh! Can you tell me what your math says? Thanks!

Your food packaging is going to be more accurate. They represent the actual brand, as opposed to a generic average for that food type.

but only more accurate if you WEIGHED it...
Those three tablespoons of light Mayo-- if you Weighed them, according to the package, then it is like 40 cals per 2 tablespoons (28 grams!)
But, i could easliy make 2 tablespoons twice that amount without realizing it

based on our discussion earlier in the week Flippy, you should definitely check out this video!!

Go buy the count on your food packaging but like someone else said you should weight and measure everything!

Ok, thanks! I'm not going to panic....or have to have one of those lame-o 150 calorie dinners. I measured everything except the pickle.

mkroyer - I couldn't get the video to play. Is there another way I can access it?

I love calorie count, but I have found if the count is off, I add the nutrition info from the package to log it. On your food log, you can select "I know the calorie content of this food" and fill in the nutrition chart. It's a very handy tool!

How much tuna is in "1 can"? Cans come in different sizes, that could be the reason for the discrepancy. Or, maybe the entry in the calorie counter is for tuna packed in oil, and yours is packed in water.

Another possibility is the "Light Mayo". Does the "light mayo" entry on your calorie counter come in higher than what the bottle says?

I would tend to use the counts on the package, because as Mandalinn says, they are specific to the contents of the package. I tend to use the entries in my calorie-counter database only for foods that don't come in a labeled package, like meat or vegetables or bulk rice and legumes. Or, I'll check the entry in the database against the package, and if it looks close enough, I'll use it rather than creating a custom entry.

just keep in mind those were only 2 examples of COMMON foods dieters eat..... why weighing food is critical, and also why the FIRST place we must assume when someone is "stuck" is that they are VASTLY underestimating their food, even when they "measure" KWIM?

BTW, the lady who made that video, LEigh Peele, is known as the "fatloss troubleshooter"
She has helped thousands of people figure out the fat loss thing, and ive worked closely with her-- everything i know i learned from her--- her specialty is helping smaller, conditioned female athletes with a history of overtraining/undereating.... got her start working with women with eating disordrs
