Unhappy O/T: It finally happened

My computer that was hit by a powersurge in Sept finally died. I'm writing from my itty bitty DSi, which is far from convient. It may be Feb before we can replace it so I will be reading WAY more than typing.

ooh I'm so sorry. That happened to me last year. Not because of a storm just an old computer. We ordered a Dell built for me. It was December 2009. First it took 3 weeks to get it because of the Christmas rush. Then when it came there was a faulty part causing the whole system not to work right. So I had to send it back and start all over again. I finally got my Dell with windows 7 and I love it! I was without a computer for over a month. And you know how it is...winter time no computer. I was a little irritable.
I finally went to our local library and used their computer room. I actually enjoyed that. Their internet was lightning fast.
I'm sorry though it is a real bummer when your computer goes out.

That sucks! There are some super cheap ($150-200) netbooks out there now for the season, though. You can get one of those in the meantime maybe.

That stinks! Sorry to hear this. It's amazing how much computers are part of our daily lives.

You can get internet access at your local library. I did that for a while years ago when my computer was on the fritz.

Well, we stole the dinosaur that we had passed on to the kids to play games.. it's about 10 years old, still running XP and can't seem to get any internet explorer beyond the 6 that is on it.. which seems to work for some things (like here..lol) but not others (like facebook which hubby thinks he will surely die without...lol).

Money is super tight this time of year, we have 4 kids to do Christmas for and well for some reason the Easter Bunny found it fun to make sure I had a Christmas present, not once, but 3!! times so we have 3 of our kids birthdays to do all within the week of Christmas... so even thinking of me spending money on myself right now is out of the question.. though hubby is begging me to open a credit account somewhere so he doesn't die... we are 100% debt free and other than our house which we are doing a rent to own on and have to take out a morgage in 3 years for, I refuse to get into debt again.. that was a nightmare I don't want to live again!

Soooo I'm trying to figure out how to get a better browser in this dinosaur and we will just try to make do until tax time. The biggest downfall is since we homeschool, all of my son's math was on the computer that crashed.. and I'm not sure the dinosaur will even work with the disks.. ugggg. He may have to go back to workbook math until income tax is here..poor kid!

My deepest, deepest sympathies.

I do not know what I would do in your place. I am praying my 8 y.o. laptop hangs in for a little while longer. I have to do a soft reboot 2x day.
