Default Who has started to/is up for making some new, healthier, holiday traditions!

Anybody making new healthier traditions this year?

I made nut roast instead of turkey, homemade low cal mashed sweet potoates in place of candied yams, and seasoned squash in place of mashed potatoes.

fiber one muffins in place of pumpkin pie.

birthday is coming up, no pudge fudge and tea in place of pudding cake!

putting up the tree, low cal hot chocolate in place of full flavor, homemade fresh fruit salad in place of a plate of cookies and chocolate!

I'm going to work wild riced stuffed acorn squash into xmas dinner somehow.

also, raspberry no pudge fun too. (and low cal chocolate silken tofu pudding for the fudge to swim in.)

hey lottie, that's awesome if that works for you -- i'm afraid i'm not a "nut roast" kinda gal

I PLAN for the ONE meal, don't make a week out of it, enjoy a nice plateful of all my favourites, and prioritize -- if I feel like a glass of wine, then no dessert etc.

Again, it's ONE MEAL out of my life and I want it to be delicious and enjoy it with all my family/friends, and then it's over. I don't use it as an excuse as a week/month-long feeding frenzy like I used to LOL

Trazey, wish I could say oh it's one meal....but, as you are not a nut roast kind of gal I am not a moderation or 'special occasion' type of gal.

I don't mean to use it as an excuse, really it's not one, if I eat stuff that is triggery, there is just no getting me back until I'm good and fed up with gaining 20+ lbs back.

Also, I have a bad habit of equating food with family and celebration. (not just holidays, like....every meal.) and I need to separate the two.

BUT, I don't think that you can't have delicious food and it be healthy at the same time, I"m just trying to make new favorites. and enjoy delicious healthy food with friends and family.

I thought my healthy totally On Plan dinner last night was really good!!!!! Actually, I soooo wanted a second helping of nut roast. ha! But, I was pleasantly full and didn't want to ruin my plan. :P

It's interesting to me, before when I "dieted" I felt deprived a lot, I wasn't doing a very low calorie or anything, but it was more a flavor thing, looking back. I was just a crappy cook.

Now that I've refined my cooking skills and learned what seasonings go together and such, I am LOVING my new food choices.
