Default How do you plan to 'save you from yourself' this holiday season?

So, the http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/100-...-holidays.html thread over there has got me thinking about who else is going to stay On Plan for the holidays and are you making or tweaking any recipes to make a more healthy version?

Staying home this year so the food will be in my control Mwahahaha!

Post your healthy holiday meal ideas/sides here so we can get ideas!

Thanksgiving:

smaller than usual breakfast and lunch.

Then a stuffed nut roast, home-made mashed sweet potatoes with splenda, half tbls margerine and cinnamon, sauteed zucchini, yellow squash, carrot, seasoned side dish. For dessert, we will each have one apple cinnamon fiber one muffin, no cholesterol recipe.

The box makes 12, I'm making them tomorrow and I'm hanging out with a friend. I'll give him 6, then freeze the other 4 for breakfasts and we'll each have one for dessert.

No pie.

Two other non official holiday things will be going on the first week of December that can cause overeating: my bday (dec 5th) and then we put the tree up that weekend.

For my bday I've decided to forgo cake in favor of Bigelow vanilla tea and one serving of no pudge fudge. (120 cals)

The putting up the tree day, my bf starts to put the tree together and I make us both a plate of cookies and chocolates and a cup of hot chocolate.

This year, while the bf puts the tree together, I will be pouring us some no sugar added hot chocolate made with hot water instead of the usual silk, and a bowl of homemade fruit salad!

Xmas dinner is not yet planned, but, we are most likely not making a single batch of cookies. Maybe some no pudge fudge raspberry flavored, but that is it. My landlord makes the very best homemade italian cookies and pastries for xmas and always makes us a plate. She would not understand if we didn't accept and it would be rude, so I'm going to have the bf take it to work and let his co-workers eat it.

Anybody else? Got ideas to save you from yourself?

I'm hosting both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at my house this year. That makes it a LOT easier to control what I put in my mouth.

I'm revamping my casserole recipes for squash and broccoli, cutting calories where I can, and cutting serving sizes where I can. Instead of sweet potato casserole, I'm making sweet potato's with cinnamon and THAT'S IT! I'm also making dressing, which I really don't care for, so that won't be a problem for me.

Potato salad is BANNED this year, along with mac-n-cheese. I'm making a huge green salad instead, hopefully I can fill up on that instead of side dishes.

Desserts requested are cheesecake and apple pie. I may have a sliver of cheesecake if I don't go overboard on the above mentioned side dishes.

I highly recommend hosting, making as much of the food as possible, or bringing your own healthy-er contributions if you have to go somewhere else.

Last night I had a salad for dinner and it had no lettuce, but a TON of every veggie we have in the house. it was pretty huge, filling, and I even had a pink lady apple for dessert!

I will have a normal week all the way around with food intake/exercise.

On Thanksgiving I am allowing myself to enjoy the meal- in moderation. I will give myself a smaller plate and I'll fill it up!

4 oz Turkey
1/4 cup of Fresh Squash
1/4 cup of Organic Potato
1/4 cup of Stuffing (Low sodium- whole wheat)
One Serving of Cranberry Sauce
1 bread roll.
Too many carbs, ugh! But it's a holiday and with moderation- I'll be Dandy!

Dessert- two small pcs of pie!! It's been 2 years since I have had pie- and this is going to be my indulgence this holiday!
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie-

And because I'm having Pie- after my turkey gets put in the oven- I'm heading out for a 5 mile street run! It will help negate the calories! Plus some!

I have no intentions on having left overs for anybody except my husband/chidlren.

Thats it for me!

For each holiday I will only have very small portions of dishes we only have at holidays.

For Thanksgiving -I'll have a small taste of stuffing and green bean casserole and some turkey. I don't like my SIL sweet potatoes. I can eat 'my' mashed potatoes anytime or rolls, too. I don't need to eat those things on Thanksgiving. (I don't care about a roll) I am making steamed asparagus, too. I will fill half of my plate with asparagus. Actually, my plate will be mostly turkey and asparagus.

I don't like pumpkin pie.

NO SECONDS ON ANYTHING.

I'll work on xmas later.
