I generally lose about 7-10 pounds a month. I also lose about half of that in one week and then peter out the rest over the subsequent 3 weeks. I noticed for the past couple of months, though, that I can tell when it's the Losing Week, which is kind of weird. It's almost like I can feel my body purging the fat and I feel noticeably different than I do the rest of the month. Obviously I'm losing the rest of the month, too, but just not so aggressively.
So what are your loss patterns? Do you lose steady through the month or have on and off weeks? Can you tell when your body shifts into loss mode, if you only lose some of the time?
Although I always weigh myself daily, I just recently started writing it down and tracking it (thanks to 3FC/100). The pattern for me is a whoosh on Monday morning when I drop a couple and the rest of the week it fluctuates.
I have a theory not based in science of any kind. When I do strength training MWF, the muscles fibers are torn a bit (normal muscle development) but it releases any marbled fat in the muscles. (Crazy I know but I like the visual) The two rest days (Sat Sun) allow fluids (water) to flush the fat out of the muscles. Then BOOM Monday morning the scale shows a loss!

So strange you should mention this today, because I have exactly the same thing happen with my weight loss, and I was just wondering this morning if I am weird or something?
I have written everything down since the beginning of my weight loss, so I can see the trends. However, sometimes it is a bit discouraging on the "off" weeks.
I tend to lose big one week and completely stall the other three. But during my "losing" week, I actually notice no change in my body. It's during the week before that I notice it. Like this week...I feel smaller even though I've GAINED four pounds. I can't make heads or tails of it and it is mind boggling! But with a four pound gain, my clothes are fitting better. Today I started urinating more which means my body is probably letting go of some water and I bet I get a small whoosh tomorrow.
My graph looks like the teeth on a fretsaw! Fortunately, the overall trend is down but my general pattern is drop, bounce up, creep down to the drop weight, maintain, and start again from the drop.
Sometimes I know in my bones that tomorrow I'll see a drop - but I've known it for sure for 2 nights in a row and been wrong! However, tonight I'm really, really Really sure. We'll see....;D
I have the same pattern! (well, I should say that I USED to have that pattern-- since I've been STUCK for quite a while here...)
Lose a whole bunch, then stall, stall, then BOUNCE, then s-l-o-w-l-y go back down to original low weight, then WHOOSH again. It used to be reliably every 4 weeks, but recently I'm kind of all over the place. Then again, I'm at that age when TOM is going a bit haywire, so maybe that has something to do with it.
And yes, I can definitely feel when I'm in LOSING mode. My body feels different. For one thing, I'm MUCH hungrier. I'm pretty sure I'm in losing mode now. My pants that fit last week all of a sudden seemed to hang on me today, and I was so hungry before lunch that I actually felt dizzy, and then, when I got home and weighed myself, my nighttime weight was actually a pound UNDER my morning weight.
When I'm not losing, I'm less hungry and I feel more bloaty.
I woosh several pounds in a day, gain it all back the next few days, and then slowly take it off the second time, that time for good. It used to drive me nuts.

My loss pattern is weird as well lately.
For the first year of my journey I didn't really notice any pattern but this last 3 months now the weight loss has slowed down I've definitely noticed it. I hesitated to post here earlier because I wanted to see if the pattern was true for the 3rd month running and it seems to be.
The week before mid cycle the weight loss seems to stop and I plateau for about a week, then mid cycle I gain for about 4-5 days and am like a bear with a sore head, then suddenly I'm absolutely starving hungry all the time, taking lots of potty breaks, and I have 7-10 days when the weight drops back down again and I have a small whoosh along with it.
This month I was stuck for 2 weeks at the same weight give or take then the last couple of days I've lost 1.5lbs am could eat a horse!
Just wish knowing the pattern would make it easier to deal with the stalls each month, but it doesn't so far.
I was just thinking about this! On Wednesday which is my weigh day, I felt fat as **** but weighed in nearly 2 lb lighter. I couldn't believe it because I felt bloated, puffy etc.
Now, three days later I feel it. I felt much slimmer today, clothes fit better and had good 'thigh clearance'. Lol.
As far as loss patterns go, so far it's been an average of 2lb a week, 1lb the week before my period, then either a whoosh or typical loss the next week.
I'm only two months and a bit in, will be interesting to see how it progresses!
DixC Chix, there might be something to your theory. At least, I feel particularly puffy just before I lose!
