Default Robin and stew!! A thank you!

Robin, there are so many things to thank you for! But this is today's! LOL! Stew!

You wrote in some thread, I don't remember which, about what you called "stew". I always thought stew was a recipe my mom gave me with lots of ingredients that is time consuming, loaded with salt, but oh so good.

I didn't know stew could be made on the stove with cabbage, peas, pearl onions, stewed tomatoes and leftover turkey! Basically, I didn't know stew was whatever vegetables I had mixed with a can of tomatoes! LOL! I didn't even add spices, it is that good.

My new favorite food.

Ooooooooh, that sounds yummy! Thanks for the tip. . .

I agree, stew to me is made with stew beef chunks browned and "stewed" all day long with potato, carrot, and onion, in a thick and savory brown gravy. Which is also yummy and oh so forbidden!

To me stew is really thick soup. (Or soup is thinned down stew...) I make them similarly -- veggies, meat, spices, long cooking.

I made an amazing African stew once, but I've never found the recipe again. It had pumpkin and peanuts in it, and I think chicken.

I made a version a couple weeks ago, it is often called west african stew. It usually has sweet potatoes or some type of squash in it, peanut butter, tomatoes and spices. I have a cookbook with a recipe, but if you google for west african stew, I'm sure you can find a workable version.

Funny you posted this, the mentioning by Robin (and others I'm sure) about soups and stews had spent this morning googling low calorie soup recipes and printing them to make my own little booklet.

Yum. The West African stew sounds swoon-worthy.

In Spain we make stews where the main ingredient is either lentils or chickpeas with pumpkin, potatoes, tomato, spinach or other veggies and if you want some meat.

Oh my gosh, I made my *stew* again Monday morning and put it in 5 large containers. One for each day of the work week.

This week it was over the top delicious - onions, carrots, cabbage, turnips, string beans, carrots, celery, mushrooms, zucchini, canned tomatoes, garlic.

I had it the first night with Talipia on the side. Last night I sauteed some chicken breast chunks and threw it in there.

I can't tell you how comforting it is to see all those containers lined up knowing I've got something scrumptious, filling and healthy good to go all week long.
