Ok I've been reading old threads about her.. how everyone thinks she's a quack/etc.. but anyone here actually follow her plan and lost any weight/kept it off?

I didn't she wasn't a real doc/quack etc.. I like her show.. disappointed to hear she is. I think her plan is good.. I want to lose weight..and trying to go vegetarian somewhat/do food combining.. I feel alot better..doing day 2 of her detox thing.

I'm from the US, but I like her show. The biggest thing is that she promotes whole foods, no junk, no processed guck, no fried or take out, lots exercise and get off the hooch. That's not quacky, just sensible.

However, some of her smoothies would probably make me hurl.

I don't like her methods. People who are fat generally know they are fat and they already hate their bodies or they would not be interested in getting a nutritionist in order to get thin. They don't need someone to come along and ridicule and chastise them and talk to them like a child. She does not look healthy, she looks underweight and grey in the face.

I'm with Dara O'Briain: "If you are what you eat then clearly at some point in her life this woman has eaten a shrew".

haha! I agree, she looks like she swallowed a wet sock and is quite the horrible little witch bully at times.
I don't think her diets are sustainable either, yes in a perfect world we'd only eat this and that but its not realistic or FUN !

I watched her show a few times and thought ok, I like the idea of eating "clean" and whole food, this is something I can look into. Apparently her credentials are dicey and her methods are suspect. It all sounded kind of batty and paranoid.

She looks like someone who isn't a thin, robust picture of health so much as a slight, neurotic example of someone who is afraid of food.

Her credentials are allegedly all bought and paid for after she visited an American convention many years ago! Certainly the American college she got her 2nd set of degrees and doctorates from is not one of the well known or respected ones - it was a correspondence course that got her her nutritionist titles.

I believe she is still having a semi-legal battle with a journalist who queried her, she publicly called him a liar on Twitter and instead of apologising has pulled the account, going so far as to claim it was not her twitter at all, despite the account being linked to from her main business site.

She is amusing in a neurotic and scatty way. I can't get over the fact that she looks so, erm, knackered, She is only 6 years older than I am. If I had spent that much time and money being healthy and ended up looking like that I would want to sue someone!

Still, it takes all sorts, I suppose.

I think if you follow her religiously then it's a bit like an OCD diet and theres no swaying from it, I think what we watch when she has a go at people is is all her own insecurities coming out... I don't believe she's a very happy person in herself, especially after watching her in the Jungle. She doesn't look healthy. I'd rather follow Nigella haha.

Yeah, after the jungle thing I had a look into her background a bit and it seems that she had a hard time getting her severe scoliosis diagnosed and she's in constant pain. But the big thing that brings it back to weight is that the problem was not that awful until she went to live abroad and the different food made her put on some weight. When she put on the weight the curve went from bad to worse really, really quickly and reading between the lines it looks like she very much blames this putting on weight for the acceleration in her pain and condition.

So you can kind of see where it all comes from, but I'm not one of those people who think that your background excuses everything you do, it can be a root cause, but you have to identify and change behaviours or else we'd all be still sat at home saying I can't help being fat because of this trigger moment that happend to me, woe is me, be sorry for me, it's not my fault. You have to have ownership.

.
How odd!

Not one word of that was ever mentioned in the autobiographical section in any of her books or websites when I first read them about 10 years ago!

I find it very odd that a severe scoliosis would be hard to get diagnosed, it doesn't hide or need any specialist equipment - just a pair of eyes!! I do know in one of her first books/programmes she went on and on about weight causing curvature of the spine, but she misused the term scoliosis when describing a pronounced lordosis.

I know because (as part of my then job) I spent a lot of time reassuring people that your spine is supposed to have a curve in it - 2 actually, and I wrote a letter to her and the TV company to complain - and got no response!

Basically, based on my knowledge of her over the years and my own education, I wouldn't take her word for anything - anything at all!

I'm just glad that her programmes and 'wisdom' are no longer so widely promoted!

Forgive me for barging in on your thread; I'm in the U.S.

I know she's controversial, but I watched her show when I first started my weight loss and kind of enjoyed it. She does seem to know a lot about what nutrients are in what foods.

I could have definitely lived without the part of the show when she discussed the persons stool sample!

A scatologist!????

Didn't she do tongues as well early on?

I vaguely remember her getting people to stick their tongues out (rushes off to check in her original book) yep! She did! And she found all sorts of cracks and fissures weird looking tongues - eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeergh!

Where on earth did she find some of those people?

Still, give her her due - she saw a commercial gap and she certainly filled it!

I still don't rate her nutritional know how!

I followed her weightloss programme and nearly died, what she doesnt tell you is that if you go over bored on seeds and nuts when you dont normally eat them it can lead to or trigger of an allergy as I found out to great cost.

She needs to get her medical degree sorted out before she does kill someone!!!

I never thought her way of eating was sustainable and I know I could not start the day with a celery and beetroot smoothie, I'd rather stick my head in a blender. She doesn't look well herself and I know she has this problem with her spine but she doesn't glow as she says we all would if we ate this way. Then of course there was her stint in the jungle where she upset Stacey and was a complete pain most of the time.
