Default Anyone see this article re: Twinkie Diet

Not that I'd recommend this, but it does reaffirm my faith in calorie counting cuz if you can lose weight, even eating twinkies, then it WORKS! lol

Yes, I saw it on Yahoo news. I thought it was interesting. Even his cholesterol went down!

I did see this, while I was at the gym!

And I agree, mama2five. It really reaffirmed for me that calorie counting is the way to go with losing weight. I mean, if he could lose 27 lbs eating that crap, then I can certainly lose weight while eating healthy food. Thanks for posting the article!

Amazing - it's about the calories. Yet - his bloodwork numbers improved, too. Go figure.

I love this! Agreed on the calorie counting, too! It's all about the cals, baby!

I've failed to diet successfully in the past because I've always gone into 'diet mode' and cold-turkeyed on the food I enjoy... making me miserable. This is cool because it challenges the good/bad diet food mentality IMO!

I agree! This is total confirmation that it doesn't matter what you eat, as long as you keep your calories in check, you'll eventually lose weight. Of course when I eat high sodium foods I retain water, or if I ate two twinkies, I'd have to starve the rest of the day, but it'll still work! I'm all about the simple pleasures. About 5 times a week, I eat a mini snickers ice cream bar. The best 90 calories in the world

I saw the guy interviewed on CNN, and this is exactly what he said -- that too often people are told or decide to cut out ALL "bad" foods, and then they can't stick to a purely healthy diet, so they give up. He's hoping this research doesn't lead people to eat the way he did, but to suggest that indulgences can be part of an otherwise healthy diet without sabotaging weight loss.

That said... I did seriously consider having a vanilla cream donut for lunch today.

Not surprising - skinny people I know who don't eat that great but are naturally thin types tend to be healthier than obese people who eat the right things but in unhealthy portions

My favorite health blogger, Dr. Stephan Guyenet (Ph.d, not MD), has a well-written blog post discussing this at:

I saw this and was impressed, impressed enough to start counting calories. Will I live on twinkies? NO. But at least I know if I do indulge occasionally I will be ok.

That is a good feeling.

I saw him on TV and , yes he is basically counting calories. That is the beauty of counting calories, you can eat anything if you want to account for it. And NO I am not advocating Twinkies ! I can spend my calories on much better things.
