Question I want to know what everyone thinks: To eat or not to eat the 12 egg omelet?

I am flying to Seattle w/my boyfriend on Friday to see his brother & sister-in-law. I don't know if any of you have seen Man vs. Food on TV or not, but there is a place in Seattle called Beth's Cafe that serves up a 12 egg omelet stuffed with chili, cheese, and hashbrowns. It is an eating challenge, of course. My boyfriend really wants to attempt this and I am confident that I can eat more of it than he can (eggs simply don't fill me).

I have just reached my original goal weight of 150 pounds!! Yahoo! But I still want to lose 10 more. I have been working out extra hard and doing extra fitness classes to burn more calories to save up for this weekend in Seattle. Now I am getting nervous about eating this omelet. I could easily gain a full pound from this thing alone. On the other hand, I can always work it off, but I can't always go back and eat it. What do you guys think??? Should I try to conquer this omelet?

Honestly, I would be SO SICK if I tried it, so I can't offer advice. Generally, I don't turn down food that is genuinely special to me/I can't get it anywhere else (because I think life is just too short!). But this gives new meaning to excessive, in my opinion.

If you did decide to do it, why would you be making that decision? Competitiveness? Fun?

Is it an omelet that you and bf can share? If so, definitely! If not, what is the lure? A special prize or t-shirt? It sounds yummy in any case. I don't think I could do it without alot of pain/heartburn afterwards.

If you're confident that this won't derail you from your ultimate goal, I'd say go for it.

You don't come across a "food challenge" every day, it sounds like competition, and if you find yourself getting sick, you have the ability to say no or that you're stopping.

Ultimately, it is your decision to make. If you think this will be a fun time and you'll be able to hop right back on board with your healthy habits, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

I've seen that one! And if it were me, yes, I would...that isn't something you'd be doing every day

If you're asking here, I think you want someone to talk you out of it. Just my 2 cents.

I'd say cheer your boyfriend on and eat something normal sized. (Of course I don't care for eggs.) You'll get the experience of the location and the competition without the pressure and the stomachache. This just doesn't sound like something you couldn't make for yourself in moderation. It sounds like this is something he really wants to do and it doesn't sound as important to you, except to show him up. Of course, if it is important, you're the one who decides.

I don't really think this is a big deal if you don't think this will derail your efforts. For me, something like this might send me into months of binge eating and I might just regain all my weight back....I know that because it happened to me before. I was doing great and then a trip totally threw me off. However, I'm determined not to do it again...I won't avoid trips for the rest of my life! However, if it's something optional like this, I would personally skip it because I don't think I would enjoy how I'd feel in general.

For others, I could see that this would be a fun event with fond memories so if you think you're going to feel fine and you'd just need to work off that omelet, I would go for it!

I disagree with JessLess, I believe this is an honest question and she's looking for an honest answer.

The people who are saying that you don't come across a food challenge every day are right. Personally, I LOVE Man vs. Food, and I've made mental notes of all the challenges Adam has done that I'd love to take a whack at. Even having lost only 21lbs, if I came across one of those challenges, I'd try it! And you have even made goal, so I say hey, go ahead and reward yourself with a try! You might be suprised and not even be able to finish the whole thing, and as long as you get right back on the wagon afterwards, I say no fear, no regret, and go for it! Live a little =) (just don't forget that you'll have to work it off )

http://www.supersizedmeals.com/food/...2_Egg_Omelette

I just googled it, that sucker looks HUGE! I see they have a smaller version the 6 egg omelet, for the smaller appetite. 12 egg omelet is a biggie, its your call, go for it if you feel the need!

I love Man vs. Food and I'd probably be sorely tempted to go for it. As long as it's something that you really want to do and you don't believe that it will totally derail your efforts then I'd say give it a shot.

I can' even eat a 4 egg omelet. It sounds way too big to me and an enormous amount of calories. I wouldn't try it . If you do let us know what happens.

I think if it's something you'd like to try, go for it!! I don't believe we have to always be "on plan" everyday for the rest of our life. Life is too short, and this type of thing won't happen every day (or probably ever again lol). As long as it won't derail you forever... Then I think life is worth living..

It's not worth it. be careful you may end up getting sick. That's a lot of eggs and they may repeat on you. Plus it'l wreck your diet.
