Default My name is Lindsay, and I'm a fat chick

Hi there! As the title says, I'm Lindsay, and I'm new around these parts. I'm trying to do the whole "online thing" for weight loss since I'm at a computer most of the day. I want to try Weight Watchers, but don't want to pay for it, so I'm going to try the do-it-yourself method.
I'll give you a little background about myself without trying to write a novel, so here goes:
I'm 25, have a 6 year old daughter, and weigh in at 266 pounds. I've had weight issues most of my life, but before I got pregnant I never weighed more than 140 pounds at any given time. In fact, that's about how much I weighed when I got pregnant. I gained nearly 60 pounds when I was pregnant, but always thought I could lose the weight easily after I had my daughter. HAH! Yeah right! Tried going to the gym for a few months after giving birth, didn't lose any weight. I steadily gained weight over the next few years, averaging about 10 a year. I could never lose the weight no matter how hard I tried, then finally went to my doctor and found out I have hypothyroidism, most likely caused from pregnancy, but instead of it being temporary it's permanent.
So now, here I am, almost 70 pounds heavier after having my daughter almost 7 years ago.
I have tried losing weight several times before (joining Curves, trying HCG) but I can never stick to a plan long enough because I lose motivation after about 2 weeks of a diet. Even though I take medication for it, the hypothyroidism can hinder my weight loss.
I have a horribly bad habit of eating a "second dinner" and I really need to kick that habit. I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago (after smoking for 8), and that was a whole lot easier than trying to stop eating an after dinner snack/meal!

So, that's my condensed story. It's a little long, but that's ok! I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you, and maybe make a friend or two along the way!

Hi, Lindsay! Welcome! I have hypothyroidism, too, and I didn't know about it until I was pregnant and my OB suspected it.

Are you taking a thyroid supplement? I've found that a supplement with iodine and L-tyrosine makes a big difference for me.

Best wishes on your weight loss journey!

I take synthroid, but I haven't heard about any supplements or vitamins to help it. I will have to look into that. Thanks for the info!
