Default First post...and frustrated

I'm not sure if I'm in the right "group" so hopefully I'm where I belong. I could sure use some been-there-done-that advice.

I'm 48, was at my ideal weight (thanks to easy success with South Beach to lose about 15 needed pounds) and then...had an unexpected pregnancy and baby at 42. (Very thankful for it, just not expected.) Now I am 20 pounds heavy. OK maybe 25.

I started SB Phase 1 last Sunday expecting the same good results. I have only lost 2.5 pounds this week - much less than last time. I stumbled onto this sight searching for SB recipes. Now I am reading articles here about ketosis and why I shouldn't do it and...I'm ready to throw it all out.

I would love to think I would lose weight by eating what I want but just limiting quantities - that's an easy one for me. But truthfully I think I need something to jump start the weight loss...but now have no idea what to do!

I'm sure there are many threads addressing similar questions but since I am new to the site I was a bit overwhelmed wondering where to start. If anyone has any advice or direction I would sure appreciate hearing it.

Have you been over to the South Beach Diet forum on 3FC? You can find answers to a lot of your questions over there, I think.

A lot of people have misconceptions about the South Beach Diet--better to get your information from those actually following the program correctly.

Good luck!

Hi Mom2bsj and ,

I don't know much about SB, but I'm not surprised it doesn't work as well as it did before -- you are older now and everything works differently. If you really don't have trouble limiting portions, plain old calorie counting would probably work very well for you. I even had a fast initial weight loss that helped keep me motivated.

Whatever you choose to do, this website is a great resource. Keep us posted on your progress!

I also am not familiar with the SBD except for what I've seen on TV and such. But for what it's worth, 2.5 pounds is GREAT for your first week. If you were at your goal weight at 42 and now 25 pounds over at 48, that means it took you 6 years to gain it, (or maybe 9 months to gain it, and you have been 25 pounds overweight for 6 years). Whatever the case, it didn't all come on in a week, and it's not going to all go away in a week, and as you know, in order to not gain it back you will have to "keep at it" for the rest of your life. Just keep on trucking and get it done.

I understand impatience, really I do, but in the scheme of things, the 20 weeks or so it will take you to get to goal is noting compared to the last 6 years of being overweight. Hang in there.
