Is anyone in the Sacramento area and interested in doing a 5k!?
I have been wanting to do a 5k for like 2 years now. After having some knee problems and a long break from training I started back up with C25K. I got up through week 6 before I went on vacation and totally fell out of the routine. Last night was my first run a few weeks but I am getting back into it and I really want to commit to training for a 5k. My husband works the complete opposite schedule as me so he will not be able to do it with me and I really don't want to do it totally alone. I need someone to celebrate with when I cross that finish line!!
Where are you in Sacramento ? I may be moving there. so far the possibiities have been Sacramento, Davis, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove and Lodi (not Sacramento but close ). I am interested in the different neighborhoods.
I am in Davis. It is a really great little town for active people. There are tons of bike/walking paths. It's a fun little community, I am a little over the college kids but there are areas that are less student populated.
I would totally do it. About what pace do you run? I'm SLOOOOOW (5-6 mph depending on the day) but have pretty good endurance.
Do you have a particular race in mind? There's a GORGEOUS 5K at Apple Hill, but it may be a little hilly. There are also two in Davis (Oktobrewfest in October and the Turkey Trot in November) that are nice and flat and good for first-timers.
Mandalinn- I am also a super slow runner! I'm like a 4-5 mph runner. LOL I was looking into both the Oktobrewfest and Turkey Trot. The one in Apple hill sounds nice but I haven't done any hilly runs yet! I have been doing most of my training on a treadmill (totally not fun) but I used to run in the arboretum all the time... maybe I will do that today since I have been craving the outdoors (even though my allergies are killing me). Anyway I am thinking I might go for both the Davis Runs! Even if nobody goes with me I feel like I still want to do it. I just don't want to be giving myself high-fives at the end and then head straight home to an empty house. LOL
I am all registered and I recruited one more person for our little slow running team. She recently started running again and completed a half marathon (if I remember correctly) but she swears she is a slow runner. Yay! Once we get a little closer to the run we will have to figure out where and when we will meet up. I am super nervous but looking forward to it!
I'm from Sac! Too bad I didn't see this earlier lol. The apple hill one sounds amazing! Hills aren't that bad, I swear.... Man I wish I lived in Davis, I belong there! UCD was like my dream school but I got rejected since the class of '08 was such a huge class.
Well good luck on the run. Transitioning isn't that hard. I was so nervous the first time I did it, and once I started running I was like "wow, I can't believe I was scared that I'd forget how to run..."
