Question Feeling sick after a while?

I have been working out at least 3-4 times a week for about 45 minutes each time and watching what I eat.

However, during the day before my workouts, I seem to feel more exhausted and have either a headache or the sniffles (sometimes both). I get about 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

Does anyone else feel/felt this way at all? Or could it be something else?

Have you just started exercising? Are you sure you're eating enough? I've had trouble exercising when I've been in either boat.

I started working out on a schedule last month. I have off and on worked out over the past year. I think I am eating enough calories- between 1700 to 1900 a day (which some sites suggest for my weight).

I would say that if you're feeling tired before your workout it's because you need something to eat or you're dehydated ... Make sure you're drinking enough and eating some carbs and protein before you workout...

I want to say I love your kitty avatar! Mine does that even though he knows it's bad, haha.

One suggestion I might have, is it may be a mental thing. I find sometimes that I get 'cold' like symptoms before going to the gym, prompting me to think I should just stay home. I've learned to recognize that it's just me looking for a way out. Unforunately I let it get to me and went home due to a headache yesterday instead of going to the gym It's like a mental game I play with myself.

Try drinking more water, take vitamins and still go. If symptoms persist it may be something underlying and you should see a doctor.

Ilene: In regard to what I eat, I drink a lot of water during the day so I keep well-hydrated and I have an apple OR orange about 2 hours before my work-out. Are fruits good for fueling my work-out? If not, what would you suggest I eat for a good pre-gym snack?

Stephanie: Lol I know! Cats do the craziest things! And I had a headache as well yesterday. I think I might start taking my One-A-Day vitamins again during lunch to keep my energy up.

Thank you both!

The first thing that comes to mind about what you eat is that there is no protein in your snack or that two hours is too much of a large window, maybe just one hour before your workout...Some fruits make me hungrier when I don't eat them with a protein specially acidic fruits like an apple or orange. Maybe a banana or oatmeal with a whey shake...

I second adding protein. Fruits make me hungry if I don't eat them with something else too. I usually have a few almonds on the way to the gym from work.

I second the nut motion. I have a handful about 15-30 minutes before I run. It may just be a placebo but it energizes me to think about something good going into my body right before working out.
Also, make sure you stretch yourself out a little bit before to get the blood flowing. That can help as well.

I agree with what everyone is saying about adding in more protein/carbs/fats.
Before my workout I have a whole wheat bagel with a whey protein shake. For the shake I blend in 1 banana, 2 teaspoons of natural peanut butter, ice, and some fat free milk. It's really good! After my workout I also have a whey protein shake but I just put 1 scoop of the protein powder with cold water.

I don't know how much protein you have in your diet. I would maybe bump it up a little. And the vitamins are really important! Don't know if you take a fish oil vitamin but I would consider adding that in also.
