Anyone have any ideas for something low calorie to dip in Salsa? I love to make homemade salsa but most of the chips I've found are like 130 for 8 chips!! And no celery please, I hate it. LOL
This loses the "dipping" aspect, but you can put it in a bowl of cottage cheese and eat it with a spoon. Savory cottage cheese is actually much better than you think it will be. You can also pour it all over baked chicken and eat it with a fork.
You can brush a little olive oil on a thin pita or flat bread and bake it in the oven. I am not sure if this will be lower calorie than the chips but it would be healthier
I use bell peppers for chips when I make guacomole. We recently made fresh salsa, well it is more of a pico and I have had a few times I have put some in a bowl and eaten it with a spoon.
I also like salsa on my eggs...I may have some for lunch.
Bell peppers, eggs, and whomever said olive oil + baked pita ... YES! SO DELICIOUS!
I also make sweet potato chips. Just skin and slice a sweet potato, toss in just a little bit of olive oil, then bake until browned. Absolutely delicious, and far healthier than any chip you can buy in the store.
I make my egg white omelet with veggies place on plate, then in same skillet heat up salsa and pour over top of eggs. I beautiful meal, don't miss the cheese this way.
I also put it over my veggie subsititues for starches. We use salsa a lot in the house.
I use tortilla chips still tostitos makes one called bite sized chips and it's about 140 cals for 14 chips it really is a lot of them when you count them out! and salsa is only 10 cals so for salsa and chips it's only 150 cals for a yummy indulgent snack
I cut tortillas (usually corn, but flour are OK too) into wedges and bake on a non-stick pan, maybe with a little salt or taco seasoning. If the salsa's good enough, you won't notice that the 'chips' aren't actual chips. I also have done the same with pita bread, and I have dipped vegetables in salsa too.
