Hey everyone!
I was sitting in a local coffee shop today and searching for South Beach Phase I recipes, and your forum was so great that you got a new member!
I've struggled with my weight my whole life, and it seemed like I was having an extraordinary amount of trouble trying to lose pounds. In college I would spend 2 hours a day in the gym (mostly trying to avoid my roommates!), and even with that and dieting I could not lose any weight. I was finally diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) last year, and it was both a relief and a source of anger. A relief to know that it wasn't just me and that there was an actual medical reason for my extraordinary difficulties losing weight (not to mention the ridiculous sugar cravings the week before my cycle...I could eat a whole giant bag of candy in a day!). But it angered me to know that the main culprit of PCOS is Insulin Resistance, which is going to make it even more difficult for me to lose weight because I have to get the IR balanced out so my body processes sugars properly.
I've got a terrific boyfriend who is also trying to lose weight, and we're getting back to it tomorrow. I've been on South Beach before, but after getting into Phase 2 I kinda dropped off

So we are heading to the store after he gets out of the gym to stock up on Phase 1 foods. I'm super psyched! I'll be here frequently for support since it's easier for a guy to lose weight than a girl (especially a girl with PCOS)! See ya in the forums!
