I have been in the weight loss game for MANY years!! I am now 44-will be 45 in August.
I have lost over 200 lbs.
I tried all the different ways to lose weight-like most of you. I gained and lost and gained and lost.
For me-it came to the point where I was becoming immobile-my knees and hips could do no more for me.
I finally considered weight loss surgery. I did not take this decision lightly. I studied and researched for a very long time. I refused to even consider the surgery until I worked on the emotional issues which brought me to it in the first place.
Even when I did decide to go for it-it took another two years!
I started out at 383. My lowest was about 150-ish and I am 173 today. Although I know some bounce-back weight is to be expected, I am not comfortable with where the weight is today.
There is no "there" on our weight loss journeys -whether it be surgical or non surgical. I would also add there is no "easy way out". In order to have success it's a total package deal. Mind, body, soul. It's a MUST.
Another thing-this journey should NOT be taken alone. I know many of us are/were isolators of the worst kind. I got to the point where I feared leaving the house-because people were cruel and it hurt.
So-now. Here I am. Just over 4 years out and doing "OK". But-OK is not good enough. I need some support and I would also love to lend some support. All I have is my experience to share.
I know what it is like to stand at the starting point looking into the distance and wondering if you are going to make it. I also know what it is like to have to use assistance to walk. And-I ALSO know what it is like to RUN up the stairs with wild abandon-only to burst into tears of joy at the amazing feat!!
I am grateful. I am also human and am at the mercy of the same things as you. Stress, fear, low self esteem, hope and dreams.
The one thing I have with me today-which is the same thing I had with me on the day of my surgery is my "TRY". That is all that is needed. One try turns into another-one foot and the next.
So-I am now going to assemble my treadmill which arrived this week. C'mon. Who am I fooling? I need to MOVE this behind of mine!!
Thanks for the great site and I am really hopeful and looking forward to meeting some new friends!!
Hi T!!!! welcome aboard!!! and your post made my day! you certainly hit the nail right on the head about the journey. and i'm thrilled you've found our little corner of the world.
you're gonna put your treadmill together??? sounds BRAVE!!!! you need to use tools, right????? <and trust me - i have NO fix-it genes at all!!! it's almost a joke>
you have done PHENOMENALLY well - and i'm hoping you'll help me kick my butt into gear as well. good heavens!! maybe we'll even start a <gulp> exercise tracking thread!!!!
Holy smokes!! Lookatchu! You have done a dang amazing job! I fully understand the work you had to have done to get this far. Really-an inspiration!
I am just getting familiar with the board and finding my way around. I really like the format and I also really appreciate the work the folks do to keep things positive and helpful. It's REALLY a nice change.
Hey! That makes TWO Jersey *chicks* in a row! That can only mean one thing. FUN! LOL! Seriously-I am all about the starting exercise thing. I am IN-just tell me which thread and when! LOL!
and what's even WORSE, is that leenie and i happen to live 10 minutes apart. A complete coincidence!
ok. i'm going to set up an EXERCISE thread - starting on SUNDAY, and we can post in there. <groan> this is gonna hurt!!!!
I've gained about 70 pounds - long story. and i'm FINALLY getting control over my eating [really!!!], and i have a long way to go to return to fit and fabulous. and it'll start with baby steps, but if ya don't START, ya never get where you want to be!!!!
Feel free to share ANY long stories with me-or point me in the direction and I will read. Seriously-MANY of us will or have gained some weight back-it's sort of part of the deal. It's WHAT we do after that happens that counts!!
And YOU are doing LOTS-it all counts. Two steps you didn't take yesterday and take today-means YOU win!!
See ya ovah on the other thread! LOL

I am a California girl! But-and this is a BIG BUT(t)--LOL---I moved to England last year because I got hitched to my lovely Brit man!
I was raised in Southern Cali and moved all over the place and ended up about 10 mins outside of San Fransisco before I moved across the pond.
As for the Joisey girls-pfft-any decent California girl knows about the Joisey girls. You KNOW us valley girls emulated you! LOL! Oooh--maybe that was a secret? Oh well! Bahahah!
