Default Greek Yogurt?

So I've seen a lot of posts where people have mentions they eat greek yogurt.. So I decided to go out and try some! now maybe it was the brand I got or something but to me it tasted like sour cream..LOL.. I even got the kind that comes with honey and also one that came with peaches.. even with that mixed in I just felt like I was eating sour cream with honey.. LOL needless to say I couldn't stomach eating it like I do regular yogurt.. with spoonfuls..

So my question is is Greek better for you then regular yogurt? why do you eat Greek yogurt? do you just eat it plain like regular yogurt or do you use it in recipes? it tastes so much lie k sour cream to me could you use it to top o n tacos or something to replace sour cream?

it seemed to me that there was more calories in the Greek yogurt more calories then regular yogurt Since my dannon light and fits are only 80 cals. and also with light sour cream it's only 25 cals per two tablespoons. So in the end calorie wise is it still better to just go with light yogurt and light sour cream since the greek yogurt was about 180 cals? or is their any benefit to Greek yogurt.. or do so many people just eat it because they like the taste?

greek yogurt is strained more than regular yogurt, resulting in a creamier more intense yogurt. it definitely has a bite to it, but when you add fruit it really tones it down. I normally add strawberries and blueberries, and sometimes add almonds for crunch, soo good. Also, greek yogurt has a ton more protein than the regular kind, making me feel fuller for a longer period of time. I'm a total convert, especially when you read some of the stuff they put in reg. yogurt, like hfcs, or "natural flavors".. it's not for me.

i recently got into the oikos organic kind, with the chocolate at the bottom. sooooo good, and it cuts the bit of the yogurt really well. It's 110 cal, so a little high for a snack.. i don't know your plan though. i definitely recommend it.

I love the taste and the texture of Greek yogurt. I do add a bit of splenda to mine. My favorite brand is Fage, and I buy the fat free. I am a diabetic so the fact that is has very little sugar and is protein rich is great for me. It did take me some time to get used to the 'punch' of the flavor but now I love it!

Greek yoghurt has the whey strained out of it.

What did you think it would taste like? I love greek yogurt and yes it does have a mild 'sour' taste. I do use it in the place of sour cream and creme fraiche in dips and dressings etc. I also have it over processed yogurts because the brand I get is 'live' it has the good bacteria that helps digestion that is processed out of the regular fruit yogurts.

I add a little honey or summer berries that's all.

I like that it's so thick but the taste itself is less than desirable. I got the kind with fruit on the bottom and since there's a little bit of blueberry juice that leaks all in the cup the yucky taste is replaced with blueberry.

I enjoy the greek yogurt. It is a bit less sweet than regular, but I like it for the much higher protein content and the thicker consistency. I pour mine over blueberries or strawberries. That makes it delicious!

I love the flavor! I definitely prefer the flavor of greek to that of plain yogurt.

Without the honey or fruit added, it's only about 60 or 70 calories for a half cup of plain fat-free. I always add fruit (mango is the best!) and occasionally add honey.

For me, I prefer it for the high protein and because the ingredients on mine are milk and active yogurt cultures. No splenda, no nutrisweet, no sugar, no colors, etc. I get enough of that elsewhere. (is it time for my daily diet coke yet?)

High in protein, low in carbs, and no artificial anything. And I love the flavor, with a bit of fresh fruit stirred in. "Normal" yogurt is like fruit flavored pudding, imo....way too sweet.

What brand did you try? I LOVE Chobani yogurt. Chobani is like the best. High in protein, most are fat free. They are creamy and have a bunch of different flavors. I think it has a very rich (but not sour) flavor. I strongly recommend it. The other brand I like is Stonyfield (but that is not greek).

I think (and someone, please correct me if I am wrong) that greek yogurt is often made with goat's milk rather than cow's milk... that would also make it taste different.

I LOVE Greek yogurt. Chobani is my favorite as well. It will keep you feeling fuller much longer than regular yogurt, it also has a TON of protein in it - about as much protein as a 3oz chicken breast!

I love it because it is fat free and full of protein and really creamy! I also flavor my plain greek yogurt with agave nectar and fruit because then I can really know what is in it without extra "additives."

I do the Chobani plain with a 1/2 cup of plain pumpkin in the can and a couple of teaspoons of agave.....so delish, and the pumpkin is full of vitamins and very little carb.

Chobani is also my favorite. The first time I tried it, I got strawberry and HOLY SOUR CREAM! I couldn't eat it. I don't know why that one tastes so bitter to me. But I'm IN LOVE with the blueberry, peach, raspberry and even the pomegranate. I tried the honey one today too and I didn't care much for that one.
