S/C/G: 128 lbs

Height: 64 inches

Default As a Recovered Anorexic

.....loosing weight healthilly can be very difficult. I joined this forum because I found I gained 5 pounds. I'm still in my healthy weight range, but I've never been this heavy. I am 64 inches tall and 129 pounds. I think its disgusting and I want to be 110 or under. However, I don't want to stop eating because I know my body can no longer handle it. Just last year I broke 4 bones in my foot from a 3 foot fall (horseplay). I'm only 17

so enough of my rambeling, are there any members who used to be anorexic but genuinely need to lose weight? if so how do you do it?

Your BMI is currently right in the middle of the normal range.

Are you currently undergoing any treatment or talking to a doctor about your eating disorder? You may want to mention your weight goals to that person, or to your parents, so you can get support in living a healthy lifestyle and maintaining at a healthy weight.

well I no longer recieve therapy, but sometimes I'd like to. I have been hhospitalized twice in my younger teen years, so my family and pcp are well aware that I used to have an eating disorder and continue to have body image issues. However, I'm afraid if I share my goals people may worry and overreact.

As someone who has a history of eating disorders, and who successfully lost weight after working for years on my issues, I can echo Mandalinn: What you need to help you is some continuing professional guidance.

For myself, because I knew I needed a good reality check & to be under the eyes of professionals, I assembled a team. That included my medical doctor, who monitored me on a scale & checked my vitals every month, but it also included counseling weekly, with a good therapist who was aware of my history. And I was a very active participant in counseling, used it thoroughly & held back nothing.

Weirdly enough, I just lurked on 3FC & did not post much during the actual weight-loss process. I really spoke up here when it began to be time to maintain, because I was concerned about 1) stopping, since losing weight for me had been addictive; and 2) maintaining, staying healthy, and being around people who were good at that.

I'd feel better knowing if you have that other support, in addition to what you may receive while posting here. Those of us who've had eating disorders & are attempting weight loss are special cases & a very different segment of the population & we have our own issues that random people on the Internet who haven't had these issues can't always be helpful with.

yeah, i agree with the other's recommendation on counseling. it's really helped me in my weight loss journey, to not revert back to old anorexic tendencies. good luck.

The fact that your counselors wouldn't want you to lose weight is even more reason, in my opinion, to go to them with the fact that you feel that you need to.

There is no way that anyone on this board can have more information about your current weight and whether losing weight is a good idea for you than the medical team that has been treating your eating disorder. Ultimately, I believe that if your goal is reasonable for your body, your team can help you develop healthy, non-destructive strategies for leading a healthier lifestyle which can eventually help you settle at a healthy weight for you. If your goal is not reasonable (and honestly, the fact that you called 19 lbs "disgusting" and have set your goal weight of 110 at nearly underweight BMI is a clue that the desire to lose weight may be rooted in your ED), they will be the best people to help you work through it.
