Default Virtual Walk Across America

I was hoping we could start a Virtual Walk Across America challenge. How it works...

We chart a course on a map and virtually walk from state to state as a group. Everyone reports their dailiy/weekly walk time. At the end of each week we tally how many total minutes we did as a group. Each minute represents a mile on a map. As we reach a new state we than chat about that state, share links and stories.

So, lets start in Seattle, WA. It will take us 198 miles/minutes to reach Portland, OR.

Is anyone else interested? It would take me a very long time to walk across America by myself. lol

This sounds fun, so do I post the minutes I walk on this thread or how does it work. Do you know how many miles we need to walk across the entire United States? I'm one to focus on the goal at hand, it helps me be successful.

You know what would be really amazing (but impossible to plan)? If you had people who actually live in each state work together to chart the miles to cross their state! Of course, that would be utterly unfair for people in Texas.

What you came up with sounds like a great idea! Have fun.

Yep, we just post the minutes we walk to this thread and each Saturday I'll tally them all up and figure out where we are on the map.

It would take a long time to chart the entire journey and tally all the miles. I was also going to wait and see if we had any input or requests from people who join in, like a side trip to Baja, Mexico or someone who lives in Canada.

Washington
We're starting this trip in Washington state, which I know a bit about. My favorite place in Washington is Long Beach. It's a small peninsula in the lower left corner of the state. They have the beach on one side, bay on the other, lakes in the middle and rocky cliffs with beautiful lighthouses at the end. This is where Lewis and Clark ended their journey and discovered the Pacific Ocean. They have fun things going on all year round. I plan to run the Beach to Chowder 5k there next June. To learn more about this area and the activities they have year round go to: http://funbeach.com

Twilight
Any Twilighters in the house? The REAL Forks, WA is located on the Olympic Peninsula, just west of Seattle. It's so much fun! I own a Twilight store where Twilight was filmed, in St Helens, OR but there's still nothing like a trip to Forks! http://www.forkswa.com/twilight

Anyone else have links or stories to share about Washington state?

This sounds fun! I think I'll join you all.

I've been to Washington State once~Seattle

We visited the Space Needle and the Market. I have misplaced my notes and can't remember the name of this fruit that I'd never seen before. I believe it was a cross between two fruits. Have never seen it again.

COOL! I have walking buddies! So, everyone post your walking time anytime between now and Saturday. Then I'll tally it up and chart where we are.

I hope we gather more people as we go. Then the miles will go faster and we can go on to Europe and other places. This will be fun!!!

I'm in!!! PLUS, I live in WA!! LOL Poifect! And, did you know it's the Seattle to Portland bike ride this weekend? How appropriate! Forks is an awesome lil town that really picked up since Twilight. I took my niece there last year... crazy screaming girls!! lol Long Beach is beautiful as well. Some of my favorites are (of course) Mt. Rainier, and up in the Methow Valley. I love Grayland, and wine country. I've been in WA for 17 years and never been to Walla Walla... I need to change that! I've been to all of the other corners of WA tho.

Hey, chattykathy, I'm interested in that 5k next year... My goal is to run a 5k next year and wouldn't that be awesome to do it at Long Beach!!

I am in WA, too. Husband retired from the Navy years ago and we loved it here so much we stayed. We love going to Seattle... we go over for the Mariners or Seahawk's games. Spend time almost every year over by Long Beach. We go one way on a ferry ride to the big city life and the other way by car or bike for all the wonderful hiking trails and coast. I walk a Leslie Sansone Dvd every day so.... since Sun I have done 240 miles.Looking forward to getting to know you all and the healthy walking!
