Default What exercise science doesnt know about women.

Interesting article regarding the now standard belief that post cardio fueling should contain protein. They repeated an earlier study that had been done with male cyclists, this time with female cyclists.

Quote:
The women showed no clear benefit from protein during recovery. They couldn’t ride harder or longer. In fact, the women who received protein said that their legs felt more tired and sore during the intervals than did women who downed only carbohydrates. The results, Dr. Rowlands says, were “something of a surprise.”

I wonder if the same thing might happen if they repeated it with a different group of men. I mean, the improvement was 4.1% ... +/- 4.1%, and they don't say much about the statistical significance.

It's about time the medical research community is looking into the fact that the female body is different then the male body. We have a long way to go, but to see research like this being done and the findings are that women react differently is such a huge first step.

It very well might. But it does get old that virtually all research on the body is done on men. Medical, exercise, pretty much everything. What's sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose.

Wouldnt want to mess up any of that old testing by having to figure out if TOM is interfering in anyway (I seriously have quicker recovery time and way more energy at certain points in my cycle)

Oh, I agree 100%. At least they're aware now that you can't assume what's gander ... But things change slowly. Many studies in the cardiovascular realm report discordant results in men and women.
