Arrow Why the heartburn?

So I've tried to eliminate the processed carbs so I can switch out to whole grains. I've done this numerous times in the past without problem but now it seems if I don't have the processed stuff....I start to get heartbun by early evening....anybody know what gives?

Hmmm. Not sure on this. What are you eating with the whole grains? Have you changed anything else in your diet?

Hopefully someone else will come along that can help. I have never had heartburn thank goodness.

I carry a lot of my weight in my stomach. My doc said that my heartburn was probably weight related, because my stomach/diaphragm are being compressed and have to work harder. She said with weight loss, I should experience decreased problems with heartburn. So far, she has been right! It's more of a once-in-a-while problem now!

Not sure what to say. I only get heartburn when I eat processed carbage. That's when I say to myself... "My body *hates* this type of food! Get back to what fuels me without giving me heartburn or indigestion!" My body doesn't tolerate that stuff very well.

I have suffered serious heart burn in the past. In previous weight loss attempts, reducing the carbs (South Beach diet) HELPED tremendously and quickly, so I'm surprised it is causing your problems. With this weight loss attempt, I went the calorie counting route. Calorie counting did not help with the heart burn. I think it was more the weight loss that finally helped than the diet. But I can tell you that now I am completely heart burn free and I was taking Prevacid with such regularity that if I missed it by one hour I'd have an attack. Yuck! Oh, how I hated that. It was just awful.

Take heart though...it may take a while, but weight loss helps.
