Eating a whole foods style diet with lots of veggies, some fruit, legumes, some whole grains, lean meat (no longer eat meat but did for a good portion of my weight loss), etc and reducing portions as I went.
Because my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic I started off with a low glycemic index plan. Basically eating like a diabetic would have to eat. As the wt came off, I started counting calories while still limiting the kinds of carbs I eat. I have a treat on rare occasion but for the most part I stay away from the white stuff--white flour and sugar. It's working for me. I know what my 'triggers' are and avoid them and I'm learning how to get the most food for my calories. I focus on lean protein & LOTS of green veggies, some whole grains, and fruits (which are now my idea of dessert).
Count calories and low carb. I eat no junk food... no sweets, chips, pastas, rice, or potatoes, and only limited whole grains. Also staying away from processed foods as much as possible. Veggies, fruits and lean protiens for me.
We are doin Atkins... We like it, it is easy and it fits with our health concerns... With us one carb leads to another... Meat, green veggies, nuts, berries.. With a low carb popsicle, or a SF Jello, every once in a while for a treat..
