Okay...so I know that the body holds on to water when you're exercising.
And I know that the body has normal daily fluctuations of up to 5-8 pounds.
But it's super frustrating when I know that I ate healthy yesterday, walked 4 miles to my sisters in the heat and humidity - sweating my a** off the whole way, passed on the second helping of stuffed french toast at dinner (and it was really, REALLY good, all filled with cream cheese and walnuts and yumminess....) and still saw a 1.5 pound INCREASE on the scale this morning.
Is it wrong to physically assault a bathroom scale?
Yes....your know you didn't eat an extra 5000 calories yesterday. Every time you step on the scale that number represents that moment only - taking into account: food eaten, energy expended, water, hormones, bodily functions, medication side effects and more.
Don't let it 'get to you'. Carry on - you are doing well.
You passed on the second helping but how big was the first and what else did you eat yesterday? you'll be fine.keep focus or what you eat and continue the exercise.continue to analyze everything and you'll work it all out.
If you were within your calories and it sounds like you had a good exercise give it an extra day. Stay on plan of course.
Here's how I know my body responds... I'll have an awesome day or a few awesome days where think I should see a loss, even as small as .2 on the scale, but when I step on the next day afterwards, I see squat. However, 2 or 3 days later, I'll see the drop. Same with days I'm completely off plan... the next day it may not show but a few days and by the time of my offical weekly... it shows. I don't always see the immeadiate effects on the scale, I don't think most of us do.
My advice, stay on the plan. Always weigh at the same time everyday if your a daily weigher, as always morning weight is generally lower, and avoid a lot of sodium, especially in the evening.
Thanks for the support...I've been a yo-yo dieter most of my life, so I know how the scale can reflect even the smallest amount of variation...but I still wanted to kick that little digital bast*rd across the room this morning.
OnaMi~ I ate my 'normal' routine in the morning/afternoon (banana for breakfast, salad for lunch..the same things I eat every single day), and while at dinner I had 1 piece of the french toast (with fat free/low cal syrup), 1 strip of bacon, 1/4 cup of the chorizo hash and about 1/2 cup of fresh fruit..not very much of anything when you consider before my change of eating habits I would have easily put away 4X that amount...
It's not the scale that fluctuates - it's your body that does

Though scale (body) fluctuations are perfectly normal, this rings out to me - you said you ate really healthy YESTERDAY - how were the weeks and days before that. Because sometimes it's not immediate, that extra 1.5 lb could have been from *off* eating done earlier. Just as your GOOD eating doesn't necessarily show up the following day. It can take a few days for the fat cells to empty out - or fill up.
Another thing - you said you ate healthy - have you been counting your calories? I know for me, eating healthy & watching my portions was never ENOUGH - I needed to have a calorie budget to adhere to, otherwise it's just too easy to overspend calories and NOT create that calorie deficit that is needed for weight loss.
I'm not sure if either of these scenarios are the case, but since you didn't give us much info, it was indeed something that came to mind.
awww i'm sorry you're feeling frustrated ~ it's such an overwhelming feeling at times!! The only thing I can contribute is how I dealt with it -- I reminded myself on a daily basis that I NEVER paid such minute detail to the scales on my way UP lol, i'd check in after a few days of gorging myself and the scale wouldn't have moved -- therefore i can eat all i want and not gain weight right???? ha! Things move slowly at times, but it WILL go down -- maybe not at the exact second you're watching and waiting for it to move, but if you keep coming in under calories consistently, the scale will catch up! be strong!

well, don't stress about ityou had a good day yesterday so maybe like another poster said,it could be cause of a lot of things. The hard exercising you did yesterday will pay off ,you'll see
Let me tell you something: I have one high calorie day a month--besides that, I measure to the gram everything I eat and it is the same 10-15 things day after day, week after week, month after month. My diet is about as consistent as it is possible for a person's to be without eating a packaged medical liquid diet. I exercise every day, and I do NOT miss. Ever. My weight loss is still erratic--I'll stall for 2-3 weeks, lose 3+ pounds a week for 2 weeks, stall again. The only pattern I can find is that as my exercise has increased my weight loss is more erratic--it was more stable before (but never perfectly matched to my behavior).
You have to take the long view on this stuff. Short term changes on the scale really don't mean anything, good or bad.
