Default What is your favorite home made Garden/Veggie burger recipe?

I'm in love love love with Morningstar Farms black bean burgers... but we need to cut down on our grocery bill and they are the most expensive thing I buy. Plus the sodium is a little high... so I'm looking for good, cheap home made alternatives. I've had BAD experience finding random recipes on the internet (I ended up with runny pancakes instead of patties!) so I thought I'd ask here...

Plus I didn't notice a veggie burger/patty thread and thought it would be fun to share.

My favorite vegetarian patty recipe is weight watcher's baked falafel: Click

...and that's about the extent of the burgers or patties I make from scratch. Haha. Any fun suggestions?

I make mine similarly to the FF Vegan's site with these modifications:

Substitute red bell pepper for the green or use chopped water chestnuts

OMIT the cumin

Sometimes I use quinoa instead of brown rice (or a blend)

Add in:

1/2 a pickled jalapeņo, chopped (I use more but we like it spicy)

2 T. nutritional yeast

1 tsp. Caribbean jerk seasoning

1 T. Red Hot

ive used it twice, they turned out pretty good. i'm still messing around with it. i also want to try a chickpea/garbanzo burger, which i would guess you could use the same recipe except substitute chickpeas for black beans.

Someone mentioned these bean burgers in the South Beach forum - pinto beans, quinoa, onion, garlic, spices. They are not the sturdiest burgers in the world (some of the reviewers suggested adding more liquid or not draining the beans) - but YUM! I thought they were delicious.
